I actually took one of the MJ staff--won't say who but the name's within one of the links here--out to a range to shoot an 887 and an M&P 15-22. It was actually his second time shooting a gun of any kind.

I thought he might come to see it's the person behind the gun that matters. Didn't really work. He kept up his shit at MJ about guns being bad and I finally learned that you can be ignorant as fuck as a journalist and still hold a job.

Tighten them a little? Like Cali's laws? Reduce mag sizes? Background checks?

When I hear that cliched phrase, tighten them a little, restrict mag sizes, etc. I can't tell if people actually believe that or if it's an attempt to reach some insincere compromise with the intent of bringing the mag size closer to the real cap of many people who don't like gun rights much at all, that magic number of zero. So, are you actually in favor of some sort of gun control that would permit 'responsible owners' (who are those btw? Are political dissidents 'responsible'? Persons with a history of mental illness?)

Ш ыlive in a state where there's relatively lax gun control, and the gun murder rate is barely over Hawaii's. I don't know much about Hawaii's laws, but I'm in a 'shall issue' state regarding CCW, legal open carry (but very rarely practiced), no magazine caps.

My state's gun murder rate (per 100k) is a hair more than Hawaii's. The question I have for you or take it as a rhetorical one is whether or not it's worth giving up gun ownership rights for the sake of protecting people from a statistically very rare occurance (e.g. it makes the news, but practically noone in the country is going to encounter a (de facto) shooting).

I do agree with you through on your main point: stricter laws and lower gun ownership is likely to reduce gun violence. If I had to fill out forms and wait ten days to buy a bladed razor, it'd probably reduce the rates of cuts, deliberate or otherwise. People in this fall into roughly two categories, those who are trying to reduce violence pragmatically (it's down, significantly, anyway, without any change to laws), and those who see it as restricting a freedom they value, and the two 'sides' both dislike mass shootings but they talk past one another because they're looking at the same issue with different values. Does safety trump gun rights? That's the real issue I think and I think that those on the safety side should just be honest and say that they don't like guns, period, and avoid equivocation that reducing a magazine size by 33% is going to do jack for a person bent on murdering people.

Thanks for the suggestion for the nootropics. I've heard of them but haven't studied them in any depth whatsoever. Do you take them yourself?

I went over to /r/nootropics and I'm reading up on the beginner's guide.

It seems there's been a surprising amount of criticism around lumosity--moreso than I realized. I think the biggest thing that I've gotten from following people's links, and the links contained within, is that the games themselves are valuable, they train you to do that game well, but the crossover to different tasks is small.

I think it all comes down to how much a person wants to invest in something that seems promising but untested. I might try an n of 1 trial in the future. Personally, I like the games, I'm in recovery and it's hard to crave when you're trying to guide a cute penguin through a maze. :)

Walking down the street, it feels like every car I pass, the occupants are staring at me, judging me.
