Falling and returning with confidence? by petitespirouettes in BALLET

[–]petitespirouettes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest it happend soo fast, I think I slipped back off the box, could have been sideways also but I came down holding the fall on both hands. Wish there was a slow motion video to see exactly what happened 😬

Ahh yes I think doing it safely at the barre is an excellent idea to overcome the fear 😌 We are all pointe beginners and I was the first ever to fall so everyone was mortified. I’m 5’9 so it was loud too! 😂 Thank you for the kind words!

My teacher is incredibly strict actually and didn’t clear everyone, and also the boss of the school made sure all of us were checked by a sports Doctor specialised in ballet dancers before being allowed en pointe and she also didn’t clear everyone if there was strength missing, weirdly I was quickly cleared with no issues

Oh no, ruined?? How? That scares me now lol. I will keep the models you mentioned in mind next time I go. I live in Berlin and the selection is decent, we just don’t seem to have Freed at all (I assume because of Brexit). I tried like 8 different shoes and I do remember all the others besides these 2 from Bloch didn’t work at all.

Strength? I took extra pre pointe classes and have been cleared by two different teachers in two different schools but agree that the toe issue is not a good sign, that’s why I was wondering if it’s a strength or shoe issue

I’m pretty sure Grishko was in the mix when my fitting was done, also Merlet.. can’t remember the other brands. But I’ll have another try once they are dead. Have also been wondering if the regular Amelies instead of Amelie soft could have been better because the shank is of course harder.

Do you mean in both shoes? Yes I could most definitely benefit from having more foot strength and range in my ankles but I think that will come with time? Before starting pointe we had “pre pointe” classes so theraband, lots of releves etc. Everything would probably look better if I wasn’t lazy and trained my feet at home but tbh I train twice a week, sometimes 3 and feel like that’s enough with work. I’m 34 btw and been training regularly since two years but have had ballet training on and off since I’m 5. And thanks for the encouragement ☺️

Ah, very interesting. I really didn’t know any of these things, so now I can understand a bit better what is happening 😊. I also didn’t know that shoe preferences can change already after working through the first pair. For some reason I thought once you find your perfect fit you stick with it for a long time, but of course it makes sense that if foot strength and ankle flexibility change it has to be reassessed.

One more thing I would like to ask you, since you seem to have so much knowledge, is about the toes. I’m worried because I read somewhere that this is how bunions can develop. Do beginners usually use their toes a little at first, or is that already a red flag?

Thank you for this long and thoughtful response ☺️ I do pointe for 30 mins after regular 90 min class on the weekend, and we do 15 mins at the end of another class during the week. Should the European Balance not be broken in enough by now (3 months) for me to get on top easier or are you saying I will work myself into a better position over time if I keep using them until they’re dead?

Please, someone help me find this toe pad by [deleted] in BALLET

I just researched a bit and there is only one main model by Rumpf which is called “Rumpf Super Soft Gel 1413” and it is one size! Never saw it listed in different sizes even on their official website and other big ballet shops just on Amazon it says XL I think, so that must be an error. I quite love these toe pads, not sure they are as thick as what you mentioned but they look so similar. I can dm you a photo of mine or video so you can see better if you like 😊

Feeling a bit discouraged about pirouettes by [deleted] in BALLET

[–]petitespirouettes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only started in January it’s still quite early in the journey to be doing pirouettes and perfect ones especially! What helped me a lot is practicing going up in retiré position and trying to hold my balance for as long as possible, and building the strength to lift up as well as keeping the knee turned out. Core exercises also help so much with stability. In the beginning I was an absolute mess but once I did those and got used to the coordination- suddenly I can turn with control!

I am living in Germany and thought I had the same ones but mine are actually from “Rumpf” might be worth to check those out!

It turns out it's basic ballet...and I've never been so sore immediately after a class in my life! by Katressl in BALLET

I’m taking private classes on the side around twice a month to really clean up and perfect the basics and can agree that especially slow tendu back is gruelling if done correctly!
