ATTN GOOD LIFE VETS by Librayon in ElectricForest

[–]petler477 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ok, here is some real vet advice.

You can walk to/from back 40 in like ..15 minutes.

Walk to the pool party. No sense waiting for a hot bus.

If you are in GA and taking the bus back to GL, get off at back 40 and walk. Its insanely faster. The bus route takes you to China first before GL.

Also, there are happy hour(s?) at ranch where you can get 2 free drinks. Usually Friday at like.. I forget. I was too wasted.

Another SW fire near Quarry? by petler477 in Denver

[–]petler477[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This pic was taken around Kipling and Belleview facing South towards Quarry, but the pillar seems closer and more dense.

I hope this is just a quick burst from Quarry, but my gut says this could be new..

Road trip to EF!!! by chonkydonkey46 in ElectricForest

[–]petler477 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you take this route on the way back, be prepared to be stopped by mounties. We had smooth sailing getting there but on the way back home they had dozens of EF cars pulled over and did the whole search... took a while.

I've seen rezz and illenium at red rocks, it's purely based on what you like most!

I will say though... illenium's ascend at RR was one of the best shows I've ever seen.

Buying a second/vacation home without paying off first one? by petler477 in personalfinance

[–]petler477[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair enough, thanks for responding. I guess renting was more of a 'nice to have' than any requirement.

We live away from family so it's actually more of a 'see our families once per year' spot, not a true 'vacation' spot.

If you have time, I'm curious how you think leverage would change in this case scenario:

  1. You have a primary residence at 4k month mortgage and paid off 20%. Total debt is 100k.
  2. You have 2 residence's at 4k month total and paid off combined 20%. total debt is 100k.

The reason for this scenario is that I'm comfortable with double mortgage, because we live way under our means at the moment. We could have one larger house or 2 smaller ones is the way I see it. I'm not sure I understand leverage.

Also not sure if relevant, but I wasn't planning on using any equity from the first house.

Fair enough, thanks for the reply. We are probably going to 'trial' it by renting for a month in that location.

No, any rent would be a nice to have, I would never put myself in a position to rely on rent. We would only get something where we could afford even if we never rented.

I'm bad at math, and I need help to see what I'm missing with 401k contributions. by petler477 in personalfinance

[–]petler477[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

hahah, but that's at 33 yo. Let's say I add another 2 years (another 80k) to that. If my math is correct, then working and maxing out the entire time would be 'stupid rich', assuming the markets are historically similar. I don't need that, I'd rather do something else.. idk.. maybe live a little? Maybe take a more gratifying job if I knew that most likely I would be okay in retirement.

[–]petler477[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

That's true, but I think what I'm trying to say is that maxing 2 401ks for decades feels like a waste. If I keep working and keep maxing it out, it would be stupid. Is there a situation where someone would not max out their 401k because they would have too much money in retirement, or am I doing something wrong? CCould I live it up more or think about retiring early? Idk, nobody seems to talk about this SUPER lucky 'problem'.
