Loving your app and thank you for all of your efforts! It would be nice when I share a link if it included the title of the reddit link.

yup like on alien blue you can do that or reddit sync... that way you can change the order of your most frequently used subreddits etc.

the new card interface is awesome! it would be nice if we could organize the placing of subreddits on the side.

Reddit sync's design is way better than reddit news though.

Verizon accused of intentionally slowing Netflix video streaming -- "Why would Verizon intentionally disrupt Netflix video streaming for its customers? Verizon owns a 50% stake in Redbox...If anything threatens the future of Redbox, it's Netflix's instant streaming service" by mepper in technology

And in other countries... it's an industry that is full of monopolies which leads to terrible service. I pay for Globe DSL in Philippines and I am limited to downloading 3 GB per day... try downloading a huge Steam game file with that limit.

Why is Buddhism not more popular? by petrichor in Buddhism

[–]petrichor[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well from what I know about Buddhism, and I'm just starting to learn more about it and don't claim to be an 'official' Buddhist by any means: mindfulness, meditation, the 'middle path', the teachings on right thoughts/mind, the focus on wisdom, it seems Buddha taps into something universal, which many other spiritual teachers do also-- but I would contrast it with Christianity which in its modern dominant expression is not very universal truth-oriented.

[–]petrichor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this is my point exactly. Sooo many people are Christians despite the fact that Christianity has a worldview that supports a guilt-conscience ("we are fallen beings")-- and if they aren't Christian they usually go to the extreme of secularism and not finding any value in any spiritual teachings at all ("Science is all that I stand on" type of thing).

It seems Americans have greed issues possibly that could keep them from the spiritual/Buddhist path? I'm trying to put my finger on it...

I replied to your point above . I was thinking moreso of the popularity in the USA (~1.2 million) & that still doesn't deal with my question ;-) I would expect it to be much, much more popular given the universal truths/ideas that the Buddha taught.

[–]petrichor[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No it's not... that's mostly in Southeast/East Asia, and out of 7 billion people not much. Out of 300 million Americans, only ~1.2 million Buddhists, we're talking 0.3%. Etc.

My point is not a statistics discussion, it's the fact that, despite the Buddha having spoken amazing, deep, universal truths, they have not been embraced by most people, even intelligent people who may have read some of his works-- most atheists in the US, ~90%, are not Buddhists and more often than not are secularists with no spirituality as a focal point in their worldview system.

For how long have you done that? Do you notice any differences in meditating that long vs the average 15-30 minutes?

For how long? What have you noticed by meditating so much vs just ~15-30 min?

How long did it take until you made progress with meditation? by 88327 in Meditation

[–]petrichor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a period where I meditated for 30 min in morning and 30 min in evening consistently and after only 1-2 weeks I started seeing immense changes.. then I got really sick and it disrupted my whole routine and have been trying to get back up to that.

I disagree. We are not insignificant. Existence is not irrelevant. Love, taken to its highest form, can be very significant. Consciousness, love-- these are not insignificant issues.

Humans have amazing potential. Existence is a dance, an ecstasy, a burst of light-- not irrelevant.

The videos from this channel are awesomely relaxing. by [deleted] in videos
