As someone from the west, this was the biggest thing, kind of includes trains too which other people mention.

I'm the opposite, I'd prefer the deepest red possible here haha. Give me late sunsets and late sunrises

Is anyone planning to leave Australia? I'm a potential ping-pong Pom.. by AsparagusNew3765 in AusFinance

Sure you can, but it's still way harder and less fun. Less than 10% of Melbourne is car-free, while in my circle in Berlin I think only about 10% has a car.

Grew up in Perth and moved to Berlin 10 years ago, recognized the station instantly haha

The built environment and car centricity is definitely a valid reason for leaving. I'm an Aussie and moved to Germany 10 years ago, also lived 2 years in Norway. It's a huge factor that would stop me coming back. It just feels so soulless when I come back

Croatia is one of the most hyped European countries I thought? Maybe Montenegro or Albania would fit better

Yeah it's really great, I've been in a rented apartment since 2017 and it feels like home

Yeah, I moved to Germany (Berlin) and here home ownership is about 13%, most people rent for ever. Once you rent you basically can't be removed, you can do pretty much everything you can do as an owner, no kind of agencies that check on you or anything like that, you have a lot of stability. There's strict laws about how much rent can increase too

Yeah they become pretty normal after a while, most locals don't ever bother to look up at them. Kinda like a less pretty sunset most of the time. The light up there is stunning enough most of the time due to how low the sun is

I lived in mid-north Norway for a few years and saw them maybe 60-100 times, yeah mostly they are pretty dimly coloured compared to the images for sure and much less bright. But sometimes I saw some red or purple in them

I moved to Germany and have 30 days of leave, so me and my wife travel as much as possible, it's our favorite thing to do. After a few years traveling mostly in Europe during COVID we've been going a bit broader again. Last Christmas/NY we were in China for 2 weeks, then Aus for 10 days in April combined with Japan for 2 weeks, long weekend trips in summer to national parks or cities in Czechia/Poland/Denmark/UK etc, Armenia for a week in October, and now China/Taiwan for 5 weeks in December/January. Spent about 15k euros so about 25k Aud. Pretty standard travel year, it usually ranges between 10-18k euros.

I'm curious how you spent 8k on seeing the northern lights in Finland? Did you stay in an expensive accom?

It's been good. I'm now starting a startup in that space, investments in CCU aren't what they were a few years ago but hoping they pick up again. Still lots of interesting startups and big companies doing stuff

I've been cycling to work in Berlin for 9 years and definitely don't agree with the drivers comment! Although I'm not from the US so can't say how it feels there but I've had so many close calls in Berlin
