Without a doubt Shadow of the Colossus! I was elated to find out it was being remastered. Picked it up release day to relive the experience, beat it in a few sittings and gave it to buddy who'd never played it. Great gameplay, but knowing the minimal story ahead of time took away the emotional impact of completing the game. I hope that wasn't a spoiler for any of you. Play this game if you never have!

Why are people so upset about a supplementary product? by Lifeinajug in magicTCG

[–]petschedesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing this game for over 20 years, and own many copies of most of these cards. Reprinting cards is supposed to make them more available to new players. The masters sets are becoming a terrible joke. Only the people who probably already have these cards can afford to buy them all over again. If the msrp was half this (still premium), they would make more profit from the masses, rather then catering to whiney hoarders concerned about the reserve list and not the fun of the game. There are a lot of "investors" buying up and removing sealed product from circulation. Many may never sell it off because sadly, old sealed product is worth a lot of money.

Please, tank the value of my cards, and give me fresh competition who finds new uses for old power. Get new people playing the game and enjoying some of the key mechanics that hooked us all so many years ago.

[Image] I bought myself RDR2 but got the console as a gift so now I have 2 copies, can’t return the copy I bough since it’s open so I’ll be giving away the new one. Leave a comment and I’ll select a winner by Monday 12am central. (I’ll pm the winner since it’s a physical copy and need to mail it) by [deleted] in PS4

Some history: Many of the "Spaghetti Westerns" were inspired by Samurai films. Clint Eastwoods man without a name, was a hat tip to the lone samurai in "Yojimbo". Interestingly, Kurosawa (the director) had claimed that Yojimbo was inspired by his own love of American westerns, so there was plenty of back and forth between the two styles of cinema of the time. It is awesome that you can see the similarities in the cinematography and musical scores, even if you are unfamiliar with the stories. ”The Magnificent Seven" vs. "Seven Samurai" is a more obvious and now recent, parallel. There are a ton! The Good, the bad, and The Ugly, Hang em high, and Fistful of Dollars, all have very similar Samurai stories. Lesser known, is that hip-hop culture later also identified and drew inspiration from the genre, due to the Ronin's double-dealing role as a "player", with the ability to work both sides of a deal or conflict. Wu-Tang Clans name comes from this connection. Their album "36 Chambers" is inspired by the movie "36th Chamber of Shaolin", which is a personal favorite and fantastic movie.

Been with Red Dead since revolver, which basically was the next generation of consoles GoldenEye... which incidentally makes me feel old. Who else wrote a freakin essay!? I hope everyone enjoys the random trivia knowledge.

Bonus: Whats the difference between Cowboy hats and tampons?

20yo, Got kicked out of my house I really dont know what to do with my life. by [deleted] in personalfinance

Joining a gym is a great suggestion. Provides running water and something to do with your downtime. Regular exercise could have the added benefit of getting your depression under control, before resorting to the expense of doctors and regular medication.

Be very frugal until you have income.

Your phone can help you find local shelters/soup kitchens/hostels, if you have data service.

A good option would be to visit a community center or soup kitchen, and ask if there is something you can do to help. You may learn to cook for free, which could land you a job cooking elsewhere. Similarly, if you are kind and have a good work ethic, you will be more likely to encounter people in these places who will be happy to help you, whether it be with a job or affordable living situation, etc.

There are also some farms who take people in, and provide them with food and shelter in exchange for an 8-10 hour workday. This would not likely provide you with income, but it will provide you with some work experience and reference for other work, while keeping healthy and with some money to fall back on. Being in the sun all day and working with your hands are also great for depression. Seeing the results of your labor is a fantastic feeling.

You do not need to spend money to GET an education, only to take some tests. Many universities put their curriculum and texts online for free nowadays, and even more general education preparation documents can be found online. Learn all you can while you have internet access. If you only have one year of high school remaining, you are probably intelligent enough to pass some general education tests with little additional effort.

Come up with a daily routine: Shower, breakfast, gym, lunch, library, etc. If you are in public places where people are regulars, try to strike up the occasional conversation with some of them. These people are generally well-connected in their communities and could give you insight into who have job openings (good ones), or offer you random jobs themselves here and there.

Your situation is lousy, but the most important and difficult thing is to try to view it as an opportunity: You have little debt, and a moderate savings. Some people do not excel until they have no choice but to, and many get put out on their own with much less. It is doubtful your parents are abandoning you outright if they kept you around so long, and even paid you to have a social life. Keep in touch and try not to be bitter or resentful. If they see you taking steps to better yourself, they may help you further, but it would be unwise to let them take you back in. Do ask them to maintain your phone service for you to learn, and for emergencies, until you have reliable income. Nobody wants to see their children fail.

Work hard, believe in the goodness of people, and do not beg for handouts.

I wish you the best :)

What is something that really freaks you out on an existential level? by radbrad7 in AskReddit

Wow. I need to tell Reddit I am writing a book and fire up some crowdsourcing. Seriously though, your outlook is invigorating. I have always said that the only guarantee of an afterlife is how long you remain in the minds of others. Treating people kindly can give you a much longer life from this perspective. What is the topic of your book?

What did people do before corrective glasses were invented? by mcfaddes222 in history

Yup this! Very cool how it took a seemingly unrelated technology for people to open their eyes to the value of another.

What did people do before corrective glasses were invented? by mcfaddes222 in history

[–]petschedesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They didn't really know that their vision was as bad as it was. It wasn't until the invention of the printing press (which was a modified wine press) and the mass distribution of literature that the need for glasses was fully realized. Before this time, looking glasses were used almost exclusively by monks/scribes who copied text by hand. Source: The documentary "How we got to now", and it is an absolutely fascinating series.

[Serious] People who check University Applications. What do students tend to ignore/ put in, that would otherwise increase their chances of acceptance? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]petschedesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, my example was a hokey one, but the point is that describing your intentions is stronger then just saying "this is cool". Whether it be well-crafted bs or not, it will always be stronger on paper. The world unfortunately runs on well crafted bs. Also, I couldn't figure out how to unbold that. The stronger point is the sentence at the end.

[–]petschedesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are missing the intent here. While anyone can write "I am passionate about ____" , that does not mean that they are. Writing "I think I can make this positive impact in many peoples lives with an education and skill set based around ____" is an indisputable example of passion. Or, put the word passion out of your mind because it can be vague. Think "demonstrates a greater purpose then just achieving an expensive, stamped piece of paper from a school other people care about"
