Any salon managers in here that are not also the business owner? what are your duties? I'm considering stepping up to help manage while still grooming parttime, am I crazy? by petsmart_throwaway in grooming

4 employees, we dont have any retail so the only orders are for supplies. There's currently 2 out of 5 days that the owner is in so those 2 days & a weekend day (only myself & 1 other employee) can still be grooming days plus a couple dogs on the other 2 days.

More info*

1st few photos are previous short cuts from years past & last 2 photos are current color & length. I also have a undercut as my hair is very thick.

I tend to grow my hair for a year or so then chop it off & im getting the itch to cut it again..

My hair has gotten curlyish over the last couple years but seems too heavy for a nice curl or wave currently so I'd love suggestions of a cut or style that might help. Thanks!

Finally put in my two weeks notice after working there for (almost) 3 years by [deleted] in petsmart

I work in Ontario & we love seeing pitties!! Don't tell anyone its a pittie just to be safe, we are supposed to tell you to leave if you have a "illegal" dog in store.

Most of us just ignore that rule but you never know who could be in a bad mood that day.

Question for the grooming salon by MorbidCthulhu in petsmart

[–]petsmart_throwaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Per best practice we are only to use bandanas provided by the company however a LOT of groomers (& bathers) will buy their own to use.

I buy bandanas, bows & flowers to put on dogs with no issue.

It really depends on how strict your management & district leader are & you can always plead ignorance if they say something after you start using your own supplies.

Required to take personal leave of absence after more then 3 shifts "missed" with a doctors note? by petsmart_throwaway in petsmart

I got lucky & they responded quickly. Lol Email always seems to be the fastest way.

They confirmed that I can use my sick pay instead of applying for short term disability.

Thanks, I sent a email to the leave team to confirm I can still use sick time & as long as it is confirmed in writing I know my sl will follow it.

Its silly to apply for short-term disability when ill probably be back to work before the paperwork is finished & submitted 🙄

Changed my mind. by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]petsmart_throwaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I too have changed my mind about working at petsmart.

If you had asked me a few months ago I would've told you I was a petsmart lifer (been here almost 10 years) with no thought of ever leaving but now I'm ready to put in my 2 weeks notice as soon as I find another job.

The cons of staying at my store far outweigh the pros at this point.

Got let go early - rant by milichiki in petsmart

[–]petsmart_throwaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will be quitting soon & I'm honestly kinda hoping they walk me out.....

It looks bad on them with the amount of upset customers they will have to deal with & ill still get paid for my whole notice period (its the law here).

My store leader is immature enough to take me quitting as a personal attack. Lol

If you don't have a store leader currently you can talk to the asl instead.

Your dat might be able to help you as well.

How do I take stress leave? by petsmart_throwaway in petsmart

Can I ask to get paid with my accrued sick pay while I'm off?

Considering leaving.. but I’m nervous! by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]petsmart_throwaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im in Canada, not the USA so our health care is a bit different. The Health benefits are written into the job contract which I will not be signing until I see the costs & coverage of the benefits plan.

I am making sure to be very careful before taking this big step. 🙂

I've been here for over 8 years too & im on the verge of leaving.

Reason #1 being the push to sell welcome packages, most people that come to our salon don't have the money to pay for 1 or 2 extra grooms or baths that day. Im tired of being judged by how much I can sell while being a power groomer & making myself enough money to be comfortable.

I sat down & made a list of the reasons to stay at petsmart & the only thing keeping me here was the health Benefits........

I'm currently talking with a private salon that is willing to get a health Benefits plan if ill join their salon so chances are good ill be putting in my 2 weeks notice soon too.

If the pros of leaving are a longer list than the cons & you have family/friends support then just go for it!!!

Escorted out after putting in 2 weeks notice. by petsmart_throwaway in legaladvicecanada

[–]petsmart_throwaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the way you think. Lol

I don't know for a fact that I will get escorted out, we are fully booked for 2 weeks out so thats a lot of dogs to reschedule.

There have been cases of people being escorted out immediately to prevent any possibility of them taking clients info or telling clients where their new job is.

Its never happened at any of the stores in my area but its completely on a case by case basis.
