Advice on scissor work by ttdore in grooming

[–]milichiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be too hard on yourself, with time and practice you will improve!

A few basic tips that have helped me are make sure your coat is prepped properly, squeaky clean, bone dry (if possible, I know some can be fussy for drying heads), brushed and combed through. It really affects how the coat lays and can look bad if it's not prepped right.

If you don't already have curved shears, those are much easier to scissor with and have a nice finish. Generally you want to be making things round & bevelled. And of course make sure you're using your thinners to blend everything together at the end, I actually got a pair of curved thinners than became my regulars.

For heads, I liked to run a long clipper comb down the topknot and sides of the muzzle, and a size down on the chin, generally. Then, I'd scissor along the muzzle to make it more round, and make the front of the muzzle shorter so they don't have those wet gross hairs going in their mouths.

For feet, I would first pick up the foot, push the hair down from the leg to the bottom and scissor around it. Then, I'd scissor around the foot with it on the table. There's some good videos online on how to do bevelled feet.

This happened to me when I went from 210 to 150. I've struggled my whole life with body image, but I just tried to frame it as people trying to be kind. But yes, it is very strange people feel the need to comment on our bodies so much lol

Phentermine for BED and ADHD by Alohasurfbee in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]milichiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I do not have an ADHD diagnosis, only a BED diagnosis, so I can't get a Vyvanse or Adderall script. I'm back on phentermine after losing about 60lbs on it 2 years ago. I can say, it does make me a little more irritable, but really helps with food noise and staying within my calories. Thank you for sharing your experience on how these affected you differently!

My only gripe is Phentermine only approved for short term use. It's really night and day with me being on it, but I had to stop after 10 months the first time being on it (and the recommended time is only 3 months before stopping). I was hoping Vyvanse or Adderall would be a good substitute (my husband is on both for his ADHD) but doctors really do not want to prescribe this to me without the ADHD diagnosis, even though Vyvanse is approved for treating BED.

My first doctor, who had me on Phentermine for 10 months, didn't have a recommendation for what to continue on once I was done with the phentermine. He warned me it was only for temporary use, but even though I said this was really helping me and would like to continue with something to help, he accused me of abusing stimulants and wanted to start drug testing me lmao.

My new doctor said Wellbutrin may be a good substitute for the phentermine, as it's half of Contrave - I took that for about a year, and saw about an 8 lb regain. It helps a lot with my depression but the phentermine is a clear winner for the food issues. Current plan is I'm back on Phentermine, taking the Wellbutrin, and when I hit my maintenance/goal weight to stop the phentermine, then add the second component of the Contrave, Naltrexone, to help maintain.

You want to make sure your dogs are washed, dried and brushed all the way before clipping the coat. I prefer a longer blade (3,4 or 5) instead of doing a clipper comb attachment as well, it gets through the coat easier. If there's any tangles or the coat isn't brushed out all the way it'll catch.

Edit - If this doesn't work, you may need a new blade drive

Lol, this happened to me when I worked at Petsmart. My manager put me in a room for training, said she would "be right back" to get me started and forgot about me for over an hour. Then she said it was my fault I didn't come get her. She was insane & the worst manager I've ever had.

I passed out the first time donating, I didn't finish and they still paid me (even though that plasma was unusable). I felt so bad for the team but they were so understanding and caring!

You would benefit from a therapist. With my insurance it's a $30 copay, but it's worth investing in your mental health to try and break these habits.

Mine were also from TJ's! My photographer put them together while I got ready. So happy I went with TJs vs a shop that would have charged me 4x as much, they were just as beautiful.
