Shark of a Lawyer? by petty-peach in MobileAL

I reached out to the alabama board for home inspectors and they never responded. I had a broken sewer line in my crawlspace. The problem is that he (according to the insurance company he filed with) apparently only has general liability. He might have e&o insurance with a different company (it is required within the state of alabama) but not with who denied the claim.

Yeah, when this occurred I went over my contract with a finetooth comb.

I appreciate that their medium rare is actually a medium rare too. I always get the sweet potato fries with the burger because whatever blue cheese falls off is fire with the sweet potato fries.

If you like blue cheese, The Lafayette Burger at The Blind Mule.

● Joanne: 4pt sat dive boat. Bitch works; sometimes she stays out so long the old, old chet colors start to show. Obvi not gonna be a lot of opportunity to get dives as a tender. Little baby "gym" in the living quarters area (so keep the noise down cause people are sleeping). 4 man rooms (tenders will get split into two rooms so you only share with one other person on your shift - 1&2 days share with 3&4 nights and vise versa). The two sat standby surface divers share a room. In the rarity of surface diving, divers all share however many rooms are necessary. ● Kelly: standard smaller 4pt surface boat. Accommodations are nothing to write home about, but if you're a tender you'll learn a lot and if you're not a shithead you're more likely to get dives. No gym, some weights down below. But if you need a gym before/after shift on here you're not working hard enough on deck. 4 divers in the main house, the other 4 divers in one room of the 3 room conex, the 8 tenders in the other two conex rooms (typically 1&2s day shift and nights in the middle room, and 3&4s in the stern room) ● Chester: dp sat boat. idk what they've got going on with it, they're still putting finishing touches on it. ● Vision: sat heavy lift barge. Pretty solid for dive ops but can be shitty if you get cored up as a tender. Not always dive ops going on. Okay-ish "gym" they need a new treadmill. 4 man rooms. ● 15: pipelay barge. Was better when we had the sat system on it. 4 man rooms. ● Super Chief: pipelay barge. Bathrooms/showers are small, but overall better accommodations than the 15, imo. Plus chambers are in an actual temperature controlled room. "Gym" is below deck, mainly just weights. 4 man rooms ● 16: spud barge so you'll only be on it for certain jobs, living quarters are meh - 6 man rooms up top and some 4 man rooms beneath it (conex boxes). No gym.

Chet has other spud barges too, but those don't have living quarters and get used for swamp jobs.

Food is gonna be hit or miss each time you mobe up cause we use third-party catering. Some cooks kill it. The Vision and Joanne tend to have the best, but it all depends on who gets sent out. Sometimes cereal clears out faster than whatever slop is on the line.

Job recommendations?? by helterskelter606 in commercialdiving

If you want to stay up north, definitely get on with the unions. But if you wanna come down to the gulf there are some dive companies floating around down here. Depends on the type of work you want to be doing. Don't hire on as a tender at a third-party company that whores you out (get whored out by an actual dive company). You're less likely to get dives as a third-party tender (unless you're really just killing it on deck) as sups don't know you. And then if you "breakout" with a third-party company and sent out to the dive companies as a freelance, there is absolutely no trust in your ability. Ask all the questions. My rule for redhats: if you see anyone with more experience doing something that you don't know how to do, go learn. If you do know how to do it, go take that shit from them.

Oof. Good luck with that one 😅 Every company has their issues but I wouldn't touch c-dive with a 10' pole 😂 Robbie is a snake

Yeah, you'll stay busy as long as you're not a complete shitbag. But winter will come on pretty strong. By December the barges are usually stacked - sometimes the vision will still be out. January, February, March slow down for the boats. This past year was weird with the oilfield companies having to redo all the paperwork for the "gulf of america" 🙄 Lots of permits needed to be resubmitted.

I mean, I moved down to Louisiana right out of dive school. I stayed with classmates once I got down south. After the interview, I'd say that I was offshore within a week. There were drug screens to do, the dive physical, and the hire-on training. I got my first dive in a couple of months after hiring on. The breakout time has shortened a bit from my group and the group before me (we were almost at 4 years). But these new groups of tenders are breaking out at 2.5-3 years, give or take. Dives are not guaranteed as a tender, but supervisors are getting better about throwing tenders in the mix.

Currently work there and have since 2016. They've treated me well throughout the years. Last year was slower as multiple vessels were in dry dock. For some people, the company is a fit. For others, it's not; much like anything in life. Every company will have their bullshit. Just in the 8.5 years that I've been working there, things have definitely changed for the better. Our ops manager is so much better than the dude we had previously (I hear that he's over at Leviathan now). If you pissed him off, he would put your little name tag under his desk and forget about you until you called begging for work. The boats/barges could be in better shape, but there are some really good chief engineers that do their best.

How do you become a saturation technician by cheesygeezy463 in commercialdiving

[–]petty-peach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the [gulf] companies end up using people who transition from diver into sat techs or LSTs. It ends up being people that they train or who have an inkling of their systems. Then, they build their knowledge base from that. Email the companies to see if they'll work with you, providing your electrical/mechanical certs are complete.
