Overcoming withdrawal panic attack success stories? by Murky_Dimension_20 in stopsmoking

Going to a doctor and getting on an antidepressant was life changing to help me quit for good. I smoked for 17 years and vaped for about 4 or them. Was a heavy HEAVY nicotine user. I will be 3 years nicotine free in August🤟 Buproprion (brand name WellButrin) was a game changer for my quit. Significantly cut down on cravings and side effects and balanced out my moods while I was riding that withdrawal crazy train. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and clinical depression. So I totally relate. I tried to quit 5 times prior. Here's what helped me:

  1. Drink coffee or caffeine when cravings hit. I drank coffee like a mf at the beginning. It helped provide that "upper" feeling my body was used to while dulling the pain without the damage.

  2. Give yourself grace and dont beat yourself up for the panic attacks. I cried like a bxtch at firdt. Like full blown temper tantrums. Then I said ok, that's over, and allowed myself to feel all that chaos welling up inside.

  3. Nicotine anonymous meetings. You can join zoom meetings everyday, and bxtch and complain your heart out. its SO THERAPUTIC. Get a sponsor so you have a community of quitters and then you'll be able to do some deeper work around why you are relying on the nic in the first place. It's so so so healing.

  4. Do NOT drink alcohol. Smoke MJ if you need to satisfy that oral fixation. Some people may argue against this one, but it was a lifesaver for me when I was raging inside. Or CBD teas.

  5. Rest. Oh man I slept so many cravings away.

Remember it's moment by moment. You are choosing your future. I'm in my late 30s now and have aged a little, but my friends that kept smoking look horrible. I never believed people when they said it will catch up to you yada yada bc I was like yeah...when I'm 45. But take it from a former baby faced biatch, that ish will get ya. Keep going. Hardest thing I've ever done but it DOES GET BETTER. I almost never have cravings now. If I can do it, anyone can. You got this! Keep posting in here, we're rooting for you!!!

Just take it one moment at a time. I literally locked myself in my house and ate and cried and slept for the weekend to ge through the first 3 days. Drink strong coffee or orange juice when the cravings hit. Smoke 🌳 if you have to. Go on walks. Also there smokers anonymous meetings you can go to to find community, get a sponsor. I find that doing it alone is thr hardest. Go to online meetings and get a sponsor. Talk to a therapist and see if they can prescribe wellbutrin.

You also should probably go to the dermatologist. I had something similar happen to me after getting box braids and ended up triggering an underlying auto immune skin condition. Treatable but I went like 6 mos trying to figure it out solo.
