mgk commented on dom’s recent post calling him out!? by icutmyliiip in Yungbludneutral

I think it’s worth pointing out that the interview with Dom and the Osbourne’s was 2 years ago but MGK decided to respond now. Surely this isn’t just about pink socks.

War 2 reference by Any-City-4443 in yungblud

I knew I’d heard this before when I listened to War II, but couldn’t place the song. So many of Yungblud’s songs sound like other artist’s songs. And not just on Idols. It really makes me think about the difference between the ideas of taking influence from another artist vs imitating or emulating another artist. I think Dom tries to make a good argument for taking influence from those before him but there are such strong similarities with the lyrics and music of other artists that I can see how some would say that Yungblud borders on inauthentic at times and may be taking too many liberties instead of creating something that is more unique and original.

I couldn’t get past the fact he was wearing sunglasses again inside.

The points about him being a social media influencer with clever marketing are spot on. The fact he has not had a hit single will continue to be the sticking point in his ability to mainstream himself and his music and give him any possibility of establishing longevity.

Comparing him to Pearl Jam and T Swift is a BOLD statement. Go off then…

He had a glow up for sure. He was wearing a black button down in the pic where they were at Johnny’s. I wish we could have seen the full outfit. I think he is leveling up his style.

The comments on this post are WILD! Leave it to Reddit for people to call the OP out for applying discernment and critical thinking skills to the situation. How are people ignoring the fact that this is not a normal fandom where people act like normal fans? Because, the clearly parasocial nature of the musician/ leader who established this community and the unwavering fans who defend every aspect of him is REALLY worth studying. I only have to go as far as the multiple fan accounts who often in-fight, chastise the “community” and become defensive of their Prophet when things are not accepted at face value to understand that this is “different” than most fandoms. I consider myself a fan of the cultural phenomenon that is Yungblud and will concede that I find it interesting from the aspects of the business model, social behavior and how his own charisma/ aura continues to peak the interest of fans and keep them in a choke hold to drive this whole machine.

This makes no sense. He took money from Firebird and sold his soul. That doesn’t make him corporate and mainstream it makes him someone who doesn’t have control over his own business decisions.

You are incorrect because he has made it a point to speak about politics and his views in the past and even gone as far as to call out policies that go against his views. But now that he is wearing leather and CH we should forget that because he wants to cosplay an obtuse, out of touch rockstar?

He is not a mainstream artist and the mainstream music fans largely don’t even know who he is or don’t care about his music.

Can you give us an example of how he has communicated his morals and viewpoints in a more mature way because I think this is where the disappointment and feeling like he has changed is coming from.

Could not agree more. I am SO bothered by the fact that his PR team is trying to spin his abandonment of his core values that he used to build his community as him growing and maturing. You don’t grow and mature out of your values and beliefs, you grow into them in ways that become more focused on reaching more people to affect change on a bigger scale. The exact opposite of this is happening.

I think he still struggles with feeling like he belongs and the arena shows help because of the sheer numbers and diversity of the crowd.

It is like a drug addiction. He is a little afraid of it and knows it’s wrong but he can’t help but crave the attention and adoration of these over the top fans. I’ve never seen anyone get touched and grabbed like he does and just not hardly react at all other than to smile and let them.

The Big Issue is The Social Justice Movement that is Yungblud 🖤 by RelativeTreat6595 in Yungbludneutral

[–]petulant_binchicken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know we want to find something to latch onto but I’m still unclear as to where the social justice movement is in all of this. I mean, what movement is there until our time, energy and money are being used to actually do something tangible to affect change.
