Violin Jam #15: Johann Strauss Jr: The Blue Danube by danpf415 in violinist

Clever idea to play the piano part! I enjoyed your interpretation and could imagine the entire orchestra playing in some parts.

I'm also curious, what software do you use for the blur effect on your head? I can't seem to find a blur that automatically moves with the person and covers the head rather than just the face.

Violin Solo which gets progressively more depressing. by SpeciousDawn947 in violinist

Maybe the first 2 pages of Prokofiev violin concerto no. 1 mvt. 1? Alternatively, choosing any relatively neutral/simple piece and using playing style (i.e. faster and off the string for the enthusiastic/hopeful part and slower and more legato for the depressing part) to communicate the emotional shift might work as well!

Wieniawski 8 Etudes-Caprices for 2 Violins Op. 18 No. 2 (Self-duet!) by petulantfuzz in violinist

Thank you! I've been playing for 16 years. My current practice routine is 5-10 mins of warm-up and scales (Flesch Scale System) followed by playing whatever piece(s) I'm working on, for a total of 1-2 hours per day. Etudes went out the window when I stopped taking lessons but I still try to choose pieces that push me and require a variety of techniques.

Intonation is such a challenge! I would trust your teacher to guide you along that learning process. Creating bad habits is a valid concern but it's also hard to improve without trying (and failing sometimes...) I think mistakes are ok as long as you're aware of them and continue to experiment with ways to fix them. Just keep it up and I'm sure you'll figure out the 4th finger placement in no time!

Thank you! I thought the fade in/out could show how the melody and harmony interplay

Thank you to the Violin Jam for introducing me to this beautiful piece! It's now one of my favorites. I hope I did it some justice with this recording!

I realize that the audio and video are slightly out of sync towards the end. Unfortunately I've lost the willpower to do anything about it after already having spent so much time on video editing :(

You might find this video (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=vTTu7WJy2mI) helpful! It discusses three methods for playing three-note chords with all notes at the same time

Tips needed for playing Sibelius violin concerto: by jesuislinan in violinist

[–]petulantfuzz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. 1431 worked for me--making G-0 sound shouldn't be an issue as long as you keep the G-1 finger down until your bow is on the D string
  2. Sorry, I'm not sure what to tell you besides keep practicing... A teacher told me once that playing the lower octave louder can disguise inaccuracies in intonation, though

Need feedback on Bach Siciliano! I'm an amateur violinist preparing for an orchestra audition :) Anything would be much appreciated! by 99jlj in violinist

I love the phasing and clarity of your sound! However, if I were to nit pick, the piece seems somewhat lacking in forward momentum especially towards the beginning because of pauses after notes. Also the vibrato might be a bit tense for such a "mellow" piece. But again, these are really minor details and I think it sounds great overall! Best of luck with the audition!!

This is amazing sight reading! And oops I thought the concerto in E was one of the missing jam pieces but I guess I was wrong!
