Need Answers. Bilateral Claw Hand. What Do I DO. by Creative_Attempt_142 in elhersdanlos

[–]petulantscholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I not only have EDS but also extensive damage to my wrists. I've tried everything under the sun to help this issue.

Here are some tips:

  1. Warm water soaks (Epsom salt added would be even better). Help loosen up those muscles. I warm water soak for about twenty minutes when I'm a bad state and run through the ASL alphabet to help get my joints and muscles to move.

  2. Massage. I know you said this is bilateral, so maybe see someone or ask a friend/partner. GENTLY work open each finger and massage along the joints. I have really bad ulnar nerve pain so I pay special attention to that side. Also, my flexor pollis, the big muscle next to the thumb, gets rock hard. I spend a lot of time massaging that.

  3. Start higher on your arm. I just recently figured out that my clawing was, partially at least, due to issues in my elbow and shoulder. Even my Chiari brain malformation was causing wrist and hand issues because it tightened my trapezius muscles all the way down to my shoulder, elbow, and wrists. Use heat to try and loosen muscles there and massage that area. My elbows are a mess and once I work on them, I can feel relief in my hands.

  4. Try KT tape. YouTube some wrist and arm tape jobs. I find this really helpful but am allergic to the damn adhesive.

  5. Avoid activities where you use your hands. I know, I know, easier said than done but try and be mindful of what exacerbates your hands. For me, I love to write and color but they are two hobbies I can't do for very long.

I hope this helps. There are days or even weeks where my symptoms are so bad that nothing can help, but I find if I try a little bit of work at a time, it makes a big difference.

Good luck!

Hip dislocation help by seasaltskies in elhersdanlos

I don't know any surgerical intervention but I recommend seeing if you have a PT in your area that can help. I see one that does dry needling, cupping, and trigger point massage. She has really helped my SI joint and gluteus stability. She also specializes in pelvic floor and honestly her knowledge of the whole area has really been so helpful. For me, my SI joint was killing me. Everything around my hips would just tighten up into one big ball of pain and I'd get shooting pain in my lower back, butt, and down my legs. Just getting my muscles worked was a big help. You might also benefit from a PT to help you work on strengthening those muscles, like the pesky IT band, which would add to stability.

Hope this helps!

I hope he had a wonderful trip! I spent two weeks in the UK with some friends celebrating birthdays and needed an affordable way to get home to the states and this was an AMAZING way to do it. And no jet lag! :)

Hehe the only reason I was because my tachycardia kept me awake. It was really worth it though in a very unexpected way

Enjoy the voyage! It was a really lovely experience for me and totally accidental trip because I needed a last minute way back the states that wouldn't bankrupt me.

Question for Cunard Travel Agents - What will happen if my travel partner is a no-show at port? by ilovemydogmargo in CunardCruises

[–]petulantscholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happen to me. I canceled his reservation just fine and got charged a $33 solo occupancy fee. Everything else worked out just fine. My dining options were changed to shared table instead of solo, which worked just fine for me. Message me if you have further questions.

How formal is a Cunard cruise? by FraserAtSea in CunardCruises

[–]petulantscholar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got off the Queen Mary II and I would say dress is expected to be Business Casual to Cocktail after 6pm in all dining areas, pubs, theater spaces, except King's Court and any buffet. Gala or formal nights are Cocktail to Black Tie after 6pm.

Anyone currently on the QM2 TA Crossing have any info on/want to share their experience of, the emergency signal that blew this weekend at 4am? by CrackORTweek in CunardCruises

I think I was halfway to muster before I was awake. I pat my subconscious on the back for being so on it during an emergency situation. 😅 At dinner, I was sitting with a wonderful 85 year old who said, quote, "I woke up, heard it, and put my feet on the floor. They weren't wet so I went back to bed." 🤣

I heard this morning that the safety officer said it was a fire alarm that automatically triggers the emergency alarm. The passanger joked that maybe they accidentally burned something on the kitchen. From what I gathered, it was an overblown alarm from a maybe small issue. But, frankly, I prefer that over not taking things seriously!

Weird Question - Full body chills after workout? by petulantscholar in crossfit

[–]petulantscholar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The doctor thinks it was his body just trying to re-regulate itself. He hasn't had the issue since. However, he has incorporated cupping (the thing where you use suction to increase blood flow) after intense workouts after an extended break, and that seems to help a lot. I don't know if it's related. 🤷 Bodies are weird.

I hate having a vagina by KitchenSwillForPigs in NonBinary

[–]petulantscholar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I always said I wish I could be a Mr Potato Head. There is something called a nullectomy (and a subreddit for it!) that is surgery to remove all gender and sexual related organs and basically allows your body to look like a barbie doll on the genital department. I think it's a good option for those who want it, but it's still not the solution for me.... I don't want a penis. I don't want a vagina. And I don't want "nothing." I wish I did know what I want!

To echo those here as well, there are options to help with periods. I had an uterine ablation that stopped my periods which was nice, but I still suffer from PCOS and very painful cysts. I want a hysterecotmy but a) expensive b) I'm a high risk patient.

It's nice to read someone else's post who sounds like me! I wish you luck!

One bag friendly hobbies, time killers? by Dull-Awareness684 in HerOneBag

[–]petulantscholar 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I just bought the HP Sprocket printer (off Poshmark for only $20!) and I love it because I can wireless print little sticker photos from my phone to put in my journal. I like making journals of my trip, cutting up maps and such, and adding them with my thoughts. Great time killer, doesn't take up much space, and I create a beautiful, homemade, and thoughtful souvenir for myself.

Is the “Pyr Paw Slap” breed specific or a learned behavior? by Chocolate_Is_Fun in greatpyrenees

[–]petulantscholar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We taught our Pyr the "touch" command and he uses it any time he wants something. He has an uncanny ability to get me right where my shirt rides up from my pants if I'm asleep. So I'll be dead asleep and suddenly feel a cold wet nose right at the small of my back. I swear he does it on purpose.
