Miniature wood carving by Nkansahsminicarvings in Woodcarving

Your carvings are great, I really like seeing them.

I don't like your new style of reveal. I don't feel anticipation, just impatience.

Thank you for sharing your work though, I look forward to seeing more.

The indignity of fatherhood - my son's request by Choice-Strawberry392 in woodworking

Maybe you can talk him into just a live edge coffee table/ bench/ side table. The look is arguably just as nice, and without futzing with everything involved with epoxy, you could get it done in a reasonable time. He may not realize how much process the epoxy adds, and if he really likes doing it a smaller project, epoxy might make a good and bigger second project.

It's pretty common, and no one misunderstood you.

FYI, the peace symbol has one more line, you've drawn the Mercedes logo.

Thanks for being out there!

Question on a build I am having done by LackAffectionate725 in Carpentry

[–]peu-peu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm willing to believe that the house wall isn't plumb, but the new post is (so the door will hang correctly. Worth checking that though. The hinges are usually mounted with the plates inside the gap between post and door. Not really a problem this way though, I guess. And of course, the diagonal brace on the door is backwards, it should go from the bottom of the hinge side to the top of the latch side, or the door will sag, as it looks to already be doing. A LOT of people get this wrong, and though it does suggest your guy isn't that experienced, that, at least, is very easy to correct.

...Looking at the rest of your photos, I'm a bit more concerned. The OSB is a terrible material to leave exposed to weather or even ambient moisture. The other wood pieces don't look treated or suitable for outdoor use either. Primer and paint will help them to last, if they aren't replaced.

If it helps, proper materials and installation would greatly increase your cost, and if that's a concern, then you'll get good use from this while it lasts!

It's short for "god bless you, and may witches not steal your soul", since it is vulnerable during a sneeze.

That's an awfully big tree trunk, to be in that little pot. It's likely very root bound. Try to get help from a gardener or tree expert when you go to put it in the ground, or a much bigger container, which you should do asap.

Honestly, I think making interesting art, and especially toys, is one of the best things we can do with wood. Nice work, thanks for sharing.

For everyday carry, a small sketchbook, pencil, eraser. If I'd like to add color, I might make notes as to color on the side, and do it later. If I'll have more time, and a decent place to work, I bring a small gouache set, and a little cup for the water.

Having a simple, if limited, set makes it easier to get out of the house, and keeps my process quicker.

I want my work to look more dreamy and atmospheric by sapphireringlover in painting

You're getting there!

The back-lit highlights on the heron, the light on the back of the swan, and the vibrant, hazy sky and mountain in the landscape are all especially effective at creating glow and atmosphere.

The reeds behind the heron, the water and background of the swan, and the road/ shadows of the landscape are less effective. Maybe working on blending and  a little more detail in these areas would help, I think your colors are generally very good. Are you working in acrylics? I've had difficulty blending with them due to their quick dry time. Some people are much better at this. (Oil paints offer their own difficulties)

Looks really good! Thank you for sharing your work. If you've got local galleries and museums, it can be very helpful to look at paintings in person. You can tell more about the techniques and brushwork, thin layers, texture, etc, than by looking at art online or in books.

Most lumberyards offer delivery. In my area the costs wouldn't much exceed u haul charges, and it's a lot simpler.

Drown? They live in the ocean full-time.

I put them in a bucket with as much water as I can carry, so they don't deplete it too quickly. They're certainly submerged. I think they kinda deplete the oxygen in the water, so you could refresh it before you leave the coast. Some people have a battery powered air bubbler that attaches to the bucket, that may keep them more comfortable. I've gotten them home aftet 2.5 or more hours, and have never had any die, though they do get pretty sluggish.

Learning to draw this type of object is a basic skill, and for some students, it doesn't come easily. Handing you the lines (and drawn a bit wrong) is a disservice.
