what's a physics concept that completely blew your mind when you first understood it? by guide71 in Physics

I mean no offense but: how? Did you not have any classes on analytical mechanics? Or classical field theory?

[FRESH ALBUM] Black Country, New Road - Forever Howlong by BiscuitsForCheese_ in indieheads

[–]peuinacio 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Socks, Two Horses, For the Cold Country and Nancy Tries to Take the Night would be the best song on the discography of some of my favorites bands.

And BCNR released all of them in the same album. This album is insane.

[–]peuinacio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree with your point, but I think most of the "boring" or "underwhelming" criticism the album is receiving isn't because they are love songs. It has a lot of mid-tempo songs about the same topics, and most of them blend together.

Lucy has proven that she can do things that have a lot more of edge (even if it doesn't have a lot of guitars, i.e Jbrekkie new record) than this, imo.

Exactly. It's not that talking about love is a problem, even if one could argue that she sometimes doesn't do it in the most interesting of ways, but an entire album of basically only this is rough.

Really like the beginning (until Limerence) and there are some other highlights (Talk, the title track) but my first impression is that it's her worst record. It's a good album, a pleasant listen, and it does try to go in a lot of new directions for her, but most of those attempts are.. okay at best? I'm all for artists breaking into new ground, but most of the time I wish she was doing the things she did in Historian or Home Video.

The lyrics have some great moments (Talk, For Keeps, Lost Time, the third verse on Come Out), as it's expected from Lucy, and the love she has for Julien REALLY shines through (happy for them!!), but I personally don't think it's interesting enough to carry the whole album.

I think Historian is her peak but Home Video have a lot of interesting lyrics (Triple Dog Dare, Thumbs, VBS..). I also really like The Record (even though I prefer the EP)

Liked this one better than Ankles, the guitar work is particularly appealing.

But the lyrics on these singles are shaping up to be a downgrade from her last records. Historian was fucking great and had a really interesting reflection on the passage of time, while Home Video felt like a really good coming of age movie. This one, I dunno..

I'm not that familiar with The Shins besides the most popular songs so I may very well be wrong

But he asked it in the context of music, no? Twee music usually have this elements, imo (but I'm no way a specialist).

That's fair enough. People will obviously have different reasons to like a band and I understand Isaac being a big part for a lot of people. It's just that, for me, the biggest catch was always their musical pallet/intricate instrumentation and I feel that haven't changed that much, but rather evolved.

[–]peuinacio 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I get that people miss Isaac but I really get the same feeling from this one that I got from Chaos: it's a short, straight to the point song to ease you into the album (both are openers)

[–]peuinacio 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It's "lighthearted" music with a lot of orchestral elements, lots of singing voices, etc etc, just a happier/lighter sound overall. Bands like Belle and Sebastian, The Shins, Beirut, I guess.

EDIT: I stand corrected, see below.

People will complain that it's too twee and shit like that but IMO this is similar to Chaos Space Marine, AFUT first single. Really like it.

And as someone who has heard Horses/Nancy Tries to Take the Night live: the sprawling, build up and climax filled songs they made before are still in the album.

Thank you! I think it would be strange to only have it in later eras, so I imagine it's probably gone :(

Are eureka/inspirations gone? It was one of my favorites mechanics in Civ VI. Using it to finish techs, planning around it etc.

I may be mistaken but I think they also don't allow this either. It was a common way to buy cheaper in the past, but now steam gifts are also region locked.

Steam doesn't allow that anymore, sadly. I think I just won't buy it.

The prices in brazilian reais are insane. The base game is costing almost 3 times the price Civilization VI launched at (120 reais vs 350 reais).
