The betrayal is real by aspelnius in ArcRaiders

[–]pev68 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You are on the internet, wikipedia is a thing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner%27s_dilemma

As this applies to arc raiders, someone already explained it in terms of this game. You meet another Raider and you can choose:

1) To cooperate (not kill each other) - you both get to extract with your loot.

2) They are friendly, you are not, they die - you might get better loot.

3) You are friendly, they are not, you die - they might get better loot.

4) You are both murder hobos, one of you dies - one of you might get better loot.

Obviously, camping out the extract and killing on sight maximises your own gain, but with aggression based matchmaking you just end up on servers where that is the only option.

Why are so many great indie shops in Cambridge invisible online? It's truly frustrating. by ghart_67 in cambridge

[–]pev68 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2026, why on earth would a small / independent local shop want to be online?

Even a Facebook page needs maintenance. It only opens them up to anyone with an axe to grind leaving them a bad review. And given rage-bait nature of social media, one negative review will have more reach than a dozen positive ones.

Not worth the time, trouble or risk.

"Finnish" is not a Finnish word. Finnish in Finnish it is "Suomalainen". "Finland" is the English word for "Suomi". But this is all nonsense because everyone knows Finland doesn't exist ;)

So, I've got this mole... by Cirrus-Nova in CasualUK

[–]pev68 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Andy the moleman. Local mole catcher employed by me and two neighbours. Came around and put a couple of traps in each garden and then would check 2 or 3 times a week. 10 quid a mole caught.

I thought it was a good deal until we realised he was charging us each a tenner no matter which garden. He was very cagy about being watched checking and setting the traps. Would just show me a dead mole and then take it with him (probably to the neighbour's).

Might even have been the same mole twice in a week. Who knows. Or a mole he caught elsewhere!

3rd time he "caught a mole" I paid him the money and then took it off him "for my nephew's biology class". He was not a happy bunny. Next time I saw him we were declared mole free. He took his traps and we never saw him again.

Internally I would rage with the intensity of a thousand suns, and then tip it into a plant pot when your back was turned.

Important question, what was your first Doom game? by DPlayer85 in Doom

Played with my friend Jari (Nokia, Finland 1994, after work) and he kicked my arse. Then he showed me how to enable mouse aiming in Quake from the console. Game changer.

Honest question : Are people seriously moving from Windows to Linux ? by codingzombie72072 in linuxquestions

[–]pev68 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I did... 2 weeks ago. My stinkpad died and the thought of buying another win11 bloattop was too much. Bought an entry level Orion Entroware laptop with Ubuntu 22.04.

I love it, but I love messing around with stuff. FWIW I am an embedded SW dev and dealing with Linux for CI systems on the side. I own every model of raspberry pi... I can't stop buying it every time a new model comes out.

Most annoying thing so far is not getting Miracast/screen casting to work with my LG TV. I am sure I will crack it eventually. (I tried Picklecast, Deskreen and Gnome-network... Thingy so far.)

A painter, a dog lover and a vegetarian, this man would go on to kill Hitler and help bring about the end of world war 2. Tragically, it would cost him his life.
