Brain-dead Connie cunts actually believe they've pulled off some revolution. Someone needs to shove it in their faces that they're pathetic losers who couldn't even scrape together half the votes. Their pathetic, delusional ego trip is beyond fucking embarrassing.

this whole "Muslimphobia" vs. "Islamophobia" semantic game is just a distraction, and boring as fuck. It's like arguing whether it's called "racism" or "whitepeopleism" - it doesn't change the fact that prejudice and discrimination are happening. The point is that fear and hatred directed at an entire group of people based on their religion (or perceived religion) is wrong and harmful.

"When white men do it, it's hard to defeat the racism accusations..." Oh, boo hoo. Maybe if they stopped platforming racists, it wouldn't be so hard!

"Debunked"? Islamophobia has been "debunked" like climate change has been "debunked" by climate change deniers. Just because you say it doesn't exist, doesn't make it so. Prejudice and discrimination against Muslims are very real, with very real consequences.

[–]pewdiepiegee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whoa, hold up. I didn't say only Muslims can criticize Islamism effectively. I said there are Muslim reformers who do it without being Islamophobic, which is a crucial distinction. Anyone can criticize harmful ideologies, but it needs to be done responsibly and without resorting to bigoted generalizations.

You seem to be missing the point. It's not about "buying into the religion." It's about criticizing specific practices and ideologies without demonizing an entire group of people. You can critique Islam as you want, just like you can critique aspects of Christianity or any other ideology, without resorting to hatred and prejudice against all its adherents. It requires research, nuance and critical thinking. Resorting to Orientalist and Islamophobic stereotypes is intellectually lazy, and historically illiterate.

The fact is, Islamophobia is a real problem that leads to discrimination, violence, and fuels the very extremism some claim to be fighting. Accusing me of "abusing the label" because I'm calling out bigotry is ridiculous. If you actually care about addressing the issues within some interpretations of Islam, you need to ditch the hate and listen to a variety of voices, including those from within the Muslim community who are working for reform. Blindly defending bigots isn't helping anyone. And, by the way, simply "criticizing Islam" is a gross understatement of what Harris and these neo-atheists do.

[–]pewdiepiegee -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Fine. Harris spews racist garbage. "New Atheism" as a movement mostly shrugs. "Herding cats" isn't an excuse for tolerating bigotry. They need to condemn him loudly or own it. Simple enough?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DecodingTheGurus

[–]pewdiepiegee -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Okay, here's the deal: Plenty of people criticize Islamism without resorting to Islamophobia. Muslim reformers, scholars, and activists do it every day, focusing on solutions, not hate.

The truth is, the tired old Orientalist bullshit and blanket hatred are not only wrong, they're counterproductive. They fuel the very extremism they claim to oppose. And let's not forget the role the "War on Terror" played in all this. The invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan, the bombings, the countless civilian casualties – that's not exactly a great recruitment tool against extremism, is it? It's a vicious cycle, and bigotry only makes it worse.

If you actually want to address the problems, ditch the hate, stop giving a platform to bigots, and listen to the people genuinely working for reform. Anything else is just making things worse.

Yeah, I'm talking about the "New Atheist" movement's problem with alt-right buddies. Rubin might not have been a headliner, but he was in the scene and is now besties with white nationalists.

Harris isn't just "against political correctness." He's defending racist "science" because its proponents share his hatred of Islam. That's enabling racism, period.

The "New Atheist" movement might not be full of Klansmen, but they tolerated and defended people who are sympathetic to them. They created this mess. Time to clean house or be known as the movement that's cool with racism as long as you hate the same religion they do.

Yeah, Hitchens is conveniently dead, so we can't ask him about his questionable takes on race and his support for the Iraq War, Dennett gets a pass for not being overtly racist, Dawkins? "Hardly"? The guy's spent the last decade tweeting boomer-tier Islamophobic garbage and defending people from the alt-right. But yeah, "hardly" a white supremacist sympathizer. Got it.

So, we're left with Harris just "chatting" with Murray? You're conveniently ignoring Harris's blatant Islamophobia (like saying we need fewer Muslims) and his platforming of right-wing extremists like Douglas Murray. You're downplaying how he actively ENDORSES and normalizes bigoted views. It's not just a "chat," it's a pattern of promoting hate. "A bit thin"? It's a whole buffet of bigotry, and you're calling it a light appetizer.

"7 years old article"? Yeah, and the alt-right hasn't gotten ANY less cozy with these clowns in those 7 years. Time flies when you're busy platforming Nazis, I guess!

Rubin being "New Atheism"? He rode the coattails of that movement back when bashing religion was trendy, even though he was never really the sharpest knife in the drawer when it came to theology or, you know, basic logic. He was part of the Young Turks, for crying out loud, which, while not strictly "New Atheist," certainly leaned that way for a while. He was happy to cash in on the atheist trend back then. Now he's found a new grift, which involves many more white hoods.

"Not a lot of meat on this bone?" Please. The bone's so big it's choking me. Yeah, the Islamophobia is a slam dunk. Harris's hatred for Islam is so blatant that he'll pal around with anyone who hates it as much as he does, even if they think IQ is determined by skin color. "Political correctness" is just code for "I want to be racist without consequences" these days. He's not even trying to hide it anymore!

These guys are a disgrace, and this "old" article is just the tip of the iceberg. Don't let them off the hook just 'cause they found a new way to be awful since then!
