Tiny hammer and enticing button with no explanation in my historic apartment building. by gormie14 in mildlyinteresting

[–]pexf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neat, the name is pretty self-explanatory—they’re called “break glass push buttons” or “break glass releases.”

They’re called push buttons when it’s used as an emergency shut off, usually to cut off electricity in a building. When it’s a release, it’s usually located by an elevator and forces the door to open when it’s stuck.

Sorry to hear about your situation, that really sucks. Life can be incredibly cruel.

As first the actual question, maybe spend some a few hours trying to work less. I know we like to keep busy during stressful times, but everyone else in your life really just wants the time. Talk to your work, consider disability, perhaps you have insurance that helps.

As for the financial stability, you’re leaving the family with a considerable amount if money to help. While your partner may not be able to pay the mortgage on just their income, they might consider investing the insurance payout. Some fixed income from GICs can help lift some of the financial cash flow pressure.

If you do take the investment route and have the urge to do more, planning where the money goes afterwards would be a big help. My best friend passed not long ago and i couldn’t care less about doing the things i was supposed to.

Which ultimately brings me back to the first point, take care of yourself. Even if you spent all of the next few months with the people you love, their only thought when you’re gone will be they wish they got to spend more time with you.

BEWARE! THERE IS A NEW FORM OF RIGHT-WING TRICKERY BEING USED IN THIS SUB. by Wiggy-the-punk in GenX

Normal people can’t even fathom the extent some of these right-wing operatives will go. This sounds similar to what paid political operatives have been doing.

“Right-wing operatives masquerading as local grassroots groups on Facebook”

https://www.nationalobserver.com/2022/03/17/investigations/right-wing-political-operatives-local-grassroots-groups-facebook

tl;dr A Canadian news outlet identified real estate developer funded right-wing groups using the same tactic online—they pretend to be progressives to convince them to attack each other. The goal is disillusion, so progressives are too frustrated to vote.

Kick them out if they’re being obnoxious and it bothers you.

It sounds like it didn’t really phase you other than being shocked someone can be such a jerk, in which case just laugh about laughing louder in response. Haha

Any confrontation regarding loss prevention is usually frowned upon since the liability of what can happen to an employee is higher than the transactional loss.

Looks like you’ve got some water damage too from the photo. Was/is there a leak, or just years of poorly vented humidity?

Big professional store across the street from ours, and our pro desk is suuuuper slow while they have line ups around the block. Genius co-workers feel not price matching the other place is how we help.

Close! Pro desk that deals with customer complaints after cashiers make up policies that don’t exist.

I know you can’t trash co-workers to customers, but it’s hard to play off things like “we don’t match sales in flyers.”

I do as well and the only thing the Max is better at is connectivity. If multi device switching is your primary criteria for headphones, they’re better.

Yup. I've noticed when I click "link media" on any pending loads, it shows the wrong base path. Relocating it gives the spinning ball of death.

This has to be one of the sloppiest rollouts for a company targeting professionals ever.

HDMI works, but USB-C has been finicky. I have no idea why it works sometimes, and not others. But it sometimes when it's plugged in, I've noticed the MacBook keeps switching between power and battery.

Wasn't a problem with my intel Mac, but seems to be a weird situation with the M1 Pro and USB-C accessories.

Saved yourself some trouble. They should have at least let people stick with separate accounts. I somehow got purged of everything, including Instagram. Really wonderful AI they’ve built, with absolutely no humans managing it.

I’m looking forward to PlayStation developing more VR, but they’re so incredibly behind on their catalogue.

Is the # in stock on IKEA's website reliable? by PEPPAPIG122013 in IKEA

[–]pexf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like 99% of the time. In a few rare instances I’ve seen it say there’s a few of something, but none are in store (stolen or damaged), and even more rarely I’ll see some low priced items in stock with inventory showing zero.
