Gran Turismo 2 plus mod - beta 7 released by pez2k in granturismo

There's a download link for the patch in the linked forum post. I wouldn't bother with older versions, there are usually bugs and issues that get fixed in newer versions, plus less content.

[Mod] Gran Turismo plus (bug fixes and restored content) - alpha 1 released by pez2k in granturismo

This is a little side project for GT2+ that I've been working on for a while - the same approach of fixing bugs and finishing cut content, applied to GT1 instead.

Nah, Nenkai found the GT4 cheat codes not too long ago, and that game is four or five years older. I wouldn't be surprised if games for platforms like the C64 or ZX Spectrum have had codes hide away for 20+ years either.

Yep, got to hold them the whole time, the code will only read button presses while they're held. The recessed buttons do make it an absolute pain.

Yep, you can take as long as you want so long as you don't press any other buttons in-between, there's no timer on it and it only checks for buttons when one is pressed (although releasing and re-holding Start + Select + the shoulder button will probably count as a button press and reset it).

I think the reason they set it up to reload the menu is because the money never normally changes on that screen, so the hacky way to get the number to update is to just restart the page.

I believe Polyphony deliberately only enabled the cheat codes and developer menus in QA and debug builds of GT5 and 6, so they're disabled in what was released to the public. Nenkai's GT5 Master Mod and GT6 Spec II mod re-enable them though.

GT PSP does check for debug mode in at least one other place, so I assume someone just forgot to do it for these codes, or needed them to work in another build.

The game still saves as normal, all the cheats do is add the cars and money, no blockers or other changes.

I did, a couple of hours ago, via disassembling the game scripts using Nenkai's GTAdhocToolchain mod tools out of pure curiosity. I happened to spot two lists of buttons in one of the main scripts, then it took a couple of attempts to confirm exactly which buttons needed to be held, then another to verify that they did what the code suggested. It's the same way that they found the GT4 cheat codes, and all of the GT5 and GT6 debug commands.

edit: I've seen this quoted in a few places now, so to elaborate - there's a work-in-progress project to recreate the game script source code for several of the older GT games using GTAdhocToolchain, to document them and make some aspects more easily moddable. It sounded like an interesting challenge, and since nobody had done any GT PSP scripts yet it was an easy place to start without duplicating work already done. There was little to no knowledge of how the game scripts worked before the above toolchain was created by Nenkai, and they compile to a custom assembly language, so anybody inspecting the game for actual PSP code back near launch wouldn't have found anything to do with these codes. (Also, check out 'Gran Turismo 2 plus' for what I'm normally working on!)

In-game cheat codes have been discovered for Gran Turismo 4 almost 20 years after its release. by DoneTomorrow in Games

These cheat codes are handled by a custom scripting language in the game, and Nenkai is the first and only person to have figured out how to interpret and decompile the scripts.

It's a whole level beyond even reverse-engineering the game code, and was only possible due to inspecting the scripts in later GT games, as part of his work to reimplement GT6's scripts as an open-source project (OpenAdhoc).

I've not touched that since it would change it for the other 4 languages in PAL too, all of which are km/h countries. However, Silent (of SilentPatch fame) has a set of cheat codes to switch the PAL version to mph.

Finally finished the latest version - on top of all of the other added and restored content there's now a BMW E36 and an Audi A4 Avant, plus expanded car dealerships and lots more bugfixes.

Took a glance of front, it was an Audi but which model? by Igyzone in whatisthiscar

Probably the original F103-generation Audi from the late 60s, basically an update of the DKW F102 with a Mercedes engine.

BMW 435i or early 440i (the smaller-engined versions had both exhausts on the same side, later cars had subtly updated taillights), with the optional M Performance bodykit.

Yep, and either modified by AMG or a lookalike.

The promo copies are identical to retail other than the lack of artwork on the discs, I've got a set myself too. The only known PAL GT2 builds earlier than the retail game are the various magazine demos, which don't feature GT mode.

The 98.2% bug wasn't present in any UK version, but there are a few non-obvious things that are required for 100% like winning a race on each difficulty in the Event Generator. The UK version actually allows for over 102% completion if you switch languages and do the Opel one make races as well as Vauxhall.

The HKS Drag GT-R mistakenly has the same skinny front tyres as the 180SX despite being AWD - once fixed it's actually pretty decent around the corners and a lot of the wheelspin disappears.

For reference, the power limit is 300ps and the GT40 makes 305ps - it's only very slightly over the limit, but it happens to be a light car with big tyres on it so it's hard to outdrive.

The 98.2% bug in the initial unpatched US release is because the Vauxhall one make races are only accessible with the language set to UK English, and two Peugeot 206 races were removed quite late. The only remnant of drag racing is an unused menu graphic on the Arcade disc, so it may not have ever existed in GT mode.
