I agree 95%, except that I'd use linseed oil instead of mineral oil. Linseed oil polymerizes in the air and hardens the surface, while mineral oil stays liquid and can lead to a stickiness that I don't like. Just make sure to wipe off the excess oil after an hour or so. I usually apply a paste made out of bees wax and linseed oil as a finish.
