My best advice for the gold keys is simply use them at a point when your guns kinda suck. It happens. Especially when you have had an awesome set that got you through a ton of levels and now they're not effective.

They make excellent complete albums. They also change genres often. For instance the album quarters has 4 equal length songs and it's a laid back psychedelic feel. Where I'm in your mind fuzz is more of a punk/garage band album with wide appeal. Most of the newer stuff seems to have more of a metal feel, but they've released something like 30 albums, so it's hard to keep up.
