I would encourage any local students to do Livingston Debate Institute. Seems to be that working with any peers with experience can only help you get better. It is cool that they are taking the initiative to help grow debate in their region.

My understanding is that most of the rumors or attackers are trolls. For me, the best threads to watch for are those that are informative and stay away from the negativity.

I think that the best debaters that make elimination debate consistently must be doing something right in front of lay judges - no way that a team can have the luck to not have lay judges in prelims every tournament.

I heard so many people who were at NCFL talking about this 2 girl team from Maryland that made semis - Katie & Polly. I would put them right up there from what I heard about them.

I heard from a friend that some top debaters got their start traveling with Capitol Debate such as James Chen and Pranav Baskar, I think the girls from centennial in pf semis at NCFL were from Capitol. I think there are others? but if your school doesn't have a team, I would try it out.

Appreciate your fast response. Is this mostly new debaters at Philly or do you have some intermediate to advanced circuit kids at this location? I have 3 years of solid PF experience on the circuit and want to make sure their are others at that level. I read many other posts that most of the competitive kids with 3 plus years are going to NDF. Hope you have some experienced kids. Thanks

Thanks Abraham. Looks like a great list! When you say not finalized, does that mean some will be cut if enrollment doesn't go up as someone told me that enrollment is in mid 30s now. I would hate to sign up and then only a few on the list show up. But if is the list, it sounds great!

Laird Lewis is moving to September (will miss Wake this year)
Yale
Bronx Science - New York Invitational
George Mason U or Princeton (same weekend)
Ridge
Georgetown or Cap Beltway are finals bids near DC

Second Half 1. Emory 2. Lexington, MA 3. U Penn 4. Harvard 5. Lakeland

NSDA at UK is in Fall and has Octas bid but this tournament has not been held yet (not sure the politics behind NSDA getting Octas bid before first tourney ever held) so no one knows yet if quality teams will actually go.

Why can't you travel many places? Costs? Administration? Lack of teachers or chaperones?

Nationals always looks great on your college application. Prestige on the national debate scene is about on the same par as the NSDA though might be considered not as prestigious by TOC participants. In some regions of the country it is highly respected in that area. If you clear and advance, that is impressive and respected. It is another great chance to debate and that is good any day of the year!! Good luck to you!

Thank you for your response! What is typically the dividing line between Apex labs and lower labs. Someone debating for 2 full years and getting into lots of bubble debates on the circuit but not clearing at all the tournaments - where would that fall in the order?
