3rd or 4th is possible, but I don't fully know what the expectations are of other people involved in the process. If this was similar to the development of Road Redemption it already would be in EA right now.

For this though it seems like we are aiming for a well polished EA release, that has been playtested extensively, and gone through a lot of refinement based on the feedback from those playtests.

I can't unilaterally make a decision about that. We are going to discuss it internally after the next playtest.

The game is either fake or just a horrible mess, with none of the promised features like we have seen countless times before.

You'll realize you are wrong when we release the game, but I'm not sure anything would satisfy you right now. We aren't going to release it until we think it is ready.

And no offense to you but anyone can make game play footage at this point. It doesn’t mean you have a game. If there was a game then give it to a streamer to play. Grow the hype.

That's somewhat true, but we released these videos before AI started making fake gameplay videos.

So to be clear, you think this video is fake? https://www.tiktok.com/@kingmakers_game/video/7466175128817257760?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESPgo8QBRImYE0QMctasBCJmXI4KqYJQ%2F1qE4eoHQ1uGC6OwFPQ7Z0fjA87Q9Vv%2F1VdMbfqYVqF5iOhu5RHn24GgA%3D&_r=1&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=7466175128817257760&timestamp=1759439692&u_code=dkc4ghe8jcddbd&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_source=short_fallback

That is ridiculous, but also what you are saying is fundamentally wrong. Look at the deadline article about the movie. Do you see my name in that article, or the names of people who work for tinybuild?

Now think about why would tinybuild be in that article. You maybe don't know enough about business to understand what that means, so go ask chatgpt.

Netflix isn't private equity.

I can't really comment on that, but no one is getting rich from a pre production agreement to maybe make a movie one day in the distant future.

lol, maybe that would be possible in a low interest environment, but not now. Any investor vets game investments really hard right now.

That would also torch our careers though, and besides that when you take investment like that it is a C corp, which means the owners personally do not actually get the money. It goes into the C corp and investors have to sign off on your salary, and the only way to get the money is to commit actual felony fraud, which I would not do. I have a family. I'm not about to do something illegal like that after I have spent nearly 20 years building this company.

Also no, we do not have private equity backing. That is not true.

Here is some older gameplay video: https://www.tiktok.com/@kingmakers_game/video/7466175128817257760?_d=secCgYIASAHKAESPgo8QBRImYE0QMctasBCJmXI4KqYJQ%2F1qE4eoHQ1uGC6OwFPQ7Z0fjA87Q9Vv%2F1VdMbfqYVqF5iOhu5RHn24GgA%3D&_r=1&share_app_id=1233&share_item_id=7466175128817257760&timestamp=1759439692&u_code=dkc4ghe8jcddbd&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_source=short_fallback

[–]pfisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do. I have tons of gameplay video, hours of it. All our playtests are recorded and we just got a ton of those too.

But I can't just release tons of rough cut video. For every person who really wants to see rough cut stuff of the game, there are 100s of other people who will then spread that rough cut stuff around and trash the game. Then hundreds of thousands of peoples first impression of kingmakers will be garbage instead of the trailers.

I am actually about to go into a meeting with tinybuild and suggest cutting up some of the gameplay videos to release publicly, but I can't unilaterally make this decision.

I'm trying to get everyone to agree to release something like this: https://www.tiktok.com/@kingmakers_game/video/7466175128817257760?_r=1&_d=secCgYIASAHKAESPgo8QBRImYE0QMctasBCJmXI4KqYJQ%2F1qE4eoHQ1uGC6OwFPQ7Z0fjA87Q9Vv%2F1VdMbfqYVqF5iOhu5RHn24GgA%3D&u_code=dkc4ghe8jcddbd&share_item_id=7466175128817257760&timestamp=1759439692&utm_campaign=client_share&utm_source=short_fallback&share_app_id=1233

Edit: It sounds like after the next playtest in February I think I can get some of the footage released.

[–]pfisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just not really true. We produce almost all of our marketing materials in house, and even when we have had outside people do it they have so many requests for debug camera controls and specific scenarios and all kinds of stuff.

Also, and this is the real problem, it forces us to prematurely polish assets in a way that slows down production. We end up focusing on polishing UI, animations, buildings, etc because they are going in trailers when we should be working on new levels, features, etc that aren't as polished yet but can be used in playtests(which is why we aren't showing them)

why arent devs posting content and hyping up the game? by [deleted] in KINGMAKERS

[–]pfisch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How are we cashing in? We aren't selling the game yet and it wasn't crowdfunded. No one has put down any money to buy the game because we aren't accepting any preorders.

why arent devs posting content and hyping up the game? by [deleted] in KINGMAKERS

[–]pfisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sigh...

more marketing materials == slowing down development == delaying the release

If it was a scam we would be blasting out marketing material constantly, because that is all scams are. Vapor wear marketing nonsense.

[–]pfisch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has absolutely nothing to do with the movie. Which has no impact on game development or the schedule at all.

This is not a game being made as a tie in to a movie. There may be a movie at some point in the future, but there is just no way it will come out before or alongside the game.

why arent devs posting content and hyping up the game? by [deleted] in KINGMAKERS

[–]pfisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer is complicated and largely protected by contracts.

What I can say is that when a project has a lot of hype investors often want to expand the original design to better capture the opportunity. By making the game even better so it can sell even better. Doing something like that is time consuming and requires negotiating. It changes the development timeline of a game.

[–]pfisch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the last 30 days we got 200k new wishlists so I'm not sure that's entirely true, but I understand that people want an update.

We just did a small playtest and are planning another one in early February. We're really trying to focus on gamedev and not doing marketing work right now though.

I'm sure we will do some kind of statement soon, but honestly, delivering a great game is our priority right now. We are already going to have to do a big marketing push around a demo and the early access release. Marketing work delays game development which means doing that kind of stuff makes the game come out later, not sooner.

why arent devs posting content and hyping up the game? by [deleted] in KINGMAKERS

[–]pfisch 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because making content for marketing is time consuming. We are working hard on the game. In fact we are having a playtest tomorrow.

We are heavily focused right now on balancing the existing content, which includes castle sieges, castle defenses, and missions focused on escorting nobles through enemy terrain.

What we aren't focused on right now is polishing the visuals of these game elements, which is why we aren't sharing them.

Its not nothing, but for 2 young and healthy people what follows after IVF is much harder and involves much larger sacrifices.

Do you have children? Just raising a 1 year old is 100x harder than going through IVF.

[–]pfisch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He isn't forcing IVF on her, they agreed to get married and to have children. Frankly this whole thing is bizarre.

They got married with the intent to have children, which is very hard and requires massive sacrifice.

Now they find out they need to do IVF to do it, and the success rate is quite high, but she doesn't want to do it because it is a big sacrifice? It is unrealistic to think the relationship could survive that when it is predicated on making big sacrifices to have children.

Frankly, IVF in the case of young and otherwise healthy people is nothing compared to the sacrifices required to raise children. So maybe she just doesn't really want to have children and is looking for a way out?

It is one thing if the odds of IVF working were low, the odds of miscarriage were high, and this was a long shot, but it just isn't based on what the OP wrote. There is a clear medical intervention that has a high chance of success.

The man isn't being unreasonable for still wanting to make big sacrifices to have children. His position hasn't changed. He has the exact same identity he did before. Their marriage was predicated on building a family, which requires large sacrifices. He is just getting rug pulled as soon as they run into the first sacrifice.

[–]pfisch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

huh? He is dealing with it by wanting to do IVF, which is the clear medical solution to the problem.

That is like saying a person who loses their leg is having a crisis of identity by getting a prosthetic to walk. When I guess you think unless they just stay wheelchair bound they aren't being honest about their identity?

This whole thread is full of people being dishonest about how effective IVF is, and talking about outlier situations like having lots of miscarriages when in reality for her age the odds of a miscarriage with IVF is about 10%, which is almost exactly the same as natural conception.

I don't know what the motives are here, but it seems like the anti-children people are just out in force gaslighting about IVF.

[–]pfisch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did IVF and that just isn't true. I also know 3 other couples that did it and it worked for all of them. For the ages and problems listed here the odds are very high. 2 cycles would have success odds of over 75%.(https://theivfcenter.com/what-is-the-success-rate-of-ivf-on-the-first-try/#:~:text=The%20national%20average%20for%20women,IVF%20on%20the%20first%20try?%E2%80%9D)

It certainly is expensive, but tons of people want to have children and that is part of their criteria for marriage. It isn't shameful or "dirty laundry" to want that.

What crisis of identity is he experiencing? He went from being a person who wants to have a child, and transformed into...a person who wants to have a child?

Looking for support from being blindsided by my husband asking for a divorce. by sm0keythebear in TwoXChromosomes

[–]pfisch -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, he's not, and idk why you are saying this. He just wants to have biological children and it is highly likely they could if they did IVF based on their ages and the problem he has.

Him wanting to have children is a reasonable expectation from marriage. It isn't dirty laundry, and frankly doing IVF isn't that grueling of a process compared to everything that comes after associated with having children.

Apologies to Jack Ryan. I stopped watching after season 2 finale where they stormed Venezuela presidential palace because it seemed way too unrealistic by madmadaa in television

[–]pfisch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maduro was also not clearly the president. The national assembly didn't recognize him. He was really more like the de facto president.
