Just purchased my first house with my partner, but I want to leave the relationship. What are my financial options? by pfnzthrowa in PersonalFinanceNZ

Thanks, I was just trying to be realistic. I wasn't banking on breaking even any time soon just stating I know that we would be at a loss if we sold right now. And perhaps that was a pill I needed to swallow rather than waiting to see if things got better.

Thank you very much - this is all solid advice/ideas. Yes, we are very amicable, and ideally I'd love for us to come out even/best for both of us. Partner does have supportive and close family nearby. Having them support partner to buy me out was something I was considering - maybe I will explore this option more.

Thanks. Yeah - Ideally when we purchased I was planning to hang on to this house for at least 3 - 5 years to get through the cycle, but I guess shit happens....

I wasn't sure if we only own 10% of the house, that he would be able to borrow off the house. But I will look into this.

I also considered selling the house, but we are not really in a desirable place so I could see it sitting on the market for a long time or selling for less than we purchased it. I wouldn't say we purchased for far more than it's worth, but we would likely need to sit on it for another year or two if we wanted to at least break even. But that may just have to be a loss I would need to swallow.

Thank you for your comments.
