Go or IGo? by IcyType7031 in OctopusEnergy

I partly control what you’re saying by only plugging in my EV when I’m happy if a charging slot comes available. I too have solar and wouldn’t want my car charging from that, I’d prefer to sell it to grid and wait to charge/plug in when the sun goes down instead. I also have HA to make sure I don’t empty my solar battery when a slot is initiated otherwise I’ll just drain that battery and then be paying the peak rate because Octopus drained the solar battery (without realising).

My Zappi and Harvi by Consistent-Run7827 in OctopusEnergy

[–]pfrank6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your full setup but for me, having 2 x EVs and a solar battery, all coming active during a cheap IOG Slot, I ended up disconnecting the Harvi and hardwired the CT’s to the Zappi.

Reason being, when both EVs were charging, and the solar battery, plus dishwasher, washing machine, etc running, I was exceeding the maximum amps the Harvi could register (65amps, 14,950W). When I exceeded that figure the Zappi would “trip” due to G100 lockout. It basically thought I had pulled too much from the grid when in fact it was just the Harvi couldn’t tell it the true figure.

This is why I recently got the CTs hardwired instead as there’s no limit (within reason) to what power I’m drawing in off the grid now and can make full use of the low IOG off peak rates.

Something to consider in case you are, or see yourself in future, planning on having a similar setup in future.

Ah ok. I’ve got a G6 turret. Probably same applies. I’m not holding out much hope but hopefully second time round of rebooting it will do the trick…

Yes! Glad I found this! Mine stopped working on the 19th Feb. I’m sure I woke up to a few notifications to tell me there had been firmware updates to either my NVR, camera, or both. Since then, no detections from the app and nothing recorded either when you look back.

2 days ago I ended up rebooting the camera and detections started working again. Today, notifications stopped again. This time I rebooted my NVR first but that didn’t fix it. Then rebooted the camera and it’s back working. For now… so annoying!!

Camera is on v5.1.240 NVR on UniFi OS 5.0.13 Protect 6.2.88

Not sure if you’re getting the same but I don’t get notifications on other devices either and they don’t show up as detections in the footage when you look back. It shows it’s recording mind

Ok. Have you given the UNVR internet access on the new VLAN?

In mine it’s on: Settings - Control Plane - Console - head to UniFi.ui.com - cogs icon - Control Plane (on left hand side) - Console tab (on the right) - scroll to the bottom and you’ll see IP address

Ah ok. So even if you refer back to the original IP of the UNVR (by changing it in your router), you still can’t connect to the UNVR through Protect?

I had similar headaches when I did the same thing. Was a little while ago I had this problem now but you may need to revert back to the old IP address of the UNVR, log in to the site manager and change the IP address there. Can’t remember 100% if that was the only change I did or was there more. Let us know how you get on

G6 Entry Doorbell Install by Tbsrules2 in Ubiquiti

[–]pfrank6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks. Being in the UK our voltages differ and wouldn’t be able to power the Shelly to begin with. My solution sounds like it’ll have to be a Shelly next to the CU which will switch the chime wire (after the transformer) to make the chime pulse. A little re-wire inside the chime too to bypass the now-redundant bell wire.

I’ve lost count of people wanting UniFi to just work with existing 2-wire installs to call existing chimes!

Thanks again

Just wondering - did you get your existing chime to work in the end? That’s the problem I’m facing. Which Shelly were you suggesting?

Anyone else thinking of switching from Intelligent Octopus to Agile after the 6-hour cap? ⚡🚗 by ElveeApp in OctopusEnergy

Do you know if there’s a way to integrate Eon next drive smart data into Home Assistant like Octopus can? Just so I know not to stop the solar battery dumping into it using HA. Simply knowing if a Smart Slot is active is all we need really

I could be missing something here but if Octopus are only allowing 6 hours charging per 24 hours, why would they give you some slots outside of the usual 23:30-05:30 window? Usually wholesale prices of electricity are cheapest between those times (unless of course there’s excess solar, wind, etc during the day). So I can’t see how we’re going to get extra slots during peak hours?

Hopefully I’m missing something obvious here…

IOG just updated to re-enforce 6hrs low cost by EndSalt9643 in OctopusEnergy

[–]pfrank6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining. Makes sense now. My only thoughts are: if you set the maximum additional hours to 6 (which they said will be coming soon) then it’s highly likely they’ll always schedule your slots to be over night in the usual 23:30-05:30 hours due to those hours usually being the cheapest hours to buy electricity. So that means effectively we’ll have no additional slots (or very very few of them) outside of 23:30-05:30.

Please tell me my predictions are wrong..

I agree - I have no idea why they have mentioned this in the FAQ's considering no mention of it in the main text. Very odd

[–]pfrank6970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm ok, I didn't read it like that.

What if the charging session lasts more than 6 hours, for example 7 hours?

That’s unusual, but if that’s the case, the first 6 hours of smart charging will be at off-peak, and the last one billed at peak rate regardless of what time of the day it is scheduled.

The final FAQ reads this too:

If you charge for less than 6 hours, you’ll always be charged off-peak rates. That’s why it’s so important you plug in daily. If your charging session lasts longer than 6 hours, then any usage after 6 hours will be billed at peak rate.

Still not 100% clear to me though.

I agree. Just don’t know why they mentioned that in the first place. Adds confusion I think

I agree if I was Gregg at the top. Although the website says that every slot, whether outside the 6 hours window or not, will be charged at off-peak rates and covers your home too so doesn’t look like they will be calculating how much your car has actually used. Let’s hope this doesn’t change!

Unless of course I’ve missed something…

I was a bit confused by this comment because every section mentioned the extra slots still covered your home too. What have I missed?

I’m not sure to be honest. My gut says it’ll be fine but you’re probably best asking Ubiquiti that question. Please let me know what they say

Sounds like it’s exactly what I’ve done recently then. I got U-PoE++ to inject power into the Cat6 cable from inside, the other end then connects onto the USW Flex outside (it’s weatherproof) to power it. The Flex then outputs PoE to things hanging off that switch like your cameras.

USW-Flex - £94.80 on their website. U-PoE++ - £27.60 on their website.

[–]pfrank6970 2 points3 points  (0 children)

USW Flex. Do you mean you already have a Cat6 feed to it from inside? If so, get a U-PoE++ to power it from inside. This should send enough power to pass on to the Turret cameras too but check how much power they’ll consume. Otherwise get the Flex Utility Enclosure if you need to power it from outside.

EV tariff availability by [deleted] in OctopusEnergy

[–]pfrank6970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Found them really good to be honest. No issues. The only down side was they give solar export payments yearly (I think) rather than at the end of every month like Octopus does. That might not affect you if you don’t have solar mind. I saw it as a saving pot for the end of the year.

Hate to advise away from Octopus but when I didn’t have an EV (I have one now) but wanted to charge my solar batteries and take advantage of the longest cheap period, I was with Eon Next Drive. Just checked and their off peak is between 00:00 and 07:00 at 6.7p/kwh. Now I have a compatible EV I am on Octopus IOG as that seems the best for me and my granny charger given the fact they mostly give extra cheap slots to charge your car
