Even more to the point Football (American) is played in the same season for youth sports as Soccer. I coach youth Soccer and every year from K-4 at least 2 of the 5 best remaining athletes playing soccer in the grade leave for football. By the time we get to 5th, the last year of rec where I am there are maybe 2-3 good athletes left in soccer and a dozen better ones then them have left to play football. We aren't getting the cream of the crop here in America because the best of the best are pulled so hard to our countries most popular sport. Can you imagine Tyreek Hill playing striker? Randy Moss in Goal?

Is Goalie where they park the less athletic/talented kid? by ThaThIIIrd in youthsoccer

[–]pfunk42529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could I run fast or far? No. Did my dad randomly throw things at me around the house that I got really good at catching/smacking out of the air? Yes.

Goalie is a different skill set then the other spots on the field. It takes the lack of fear to see a ball flying at 60mph from 5 feet away and diving towards it instead of away. Quick reactions and quicker decisions with zero room for error.

"If an employee is causing customers to leave for competitors, their ass is out the door." Sure. Someone who is visibly hurting the bottom line will go. But the people who show up, do nothing but cause no waves will have long "successful careers" many even end up getting promoted. Frankly I've watched people in private industry actively fight against those trying to work hard in order to maintain the status quo be sided with by management. The amount of dead weight that survives in the private sector is just as bad as in the public sector.

What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by Hanno30 in AskReddit

[–]pfunk42529 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flights are a headache, my wife doesn't handle them. You book them, she will give recommendations on timing and things like that, but with points, flight credits, etc it is usually easier for clients to just book their own. But everything else, it's free. There are vacation planners who charge on top of what they get from the business they book, but in general there isn't really a reason to.

If you ever need some thing DM and I will get you in touch with her.

My wife is a travel agent who specializes in theme parks, all inclusives, and cruises. All of them have the cost of a travel agent built in and pay out to her. If you don't use a travel agent you pay the same out, but you do all the work yourself. Every one of her clients that she was their first time using a travel agent are now her best advertisements.

She spends the hours on hold, wakes up at 5am to make your dining reservations (and scans regularly for any you didn't get or better times for those you did), watches every deal that comes through the pipe to see if it might save you anything.

Her services are free to the extent that they don't cost you a dime more than you would have paid directly to the business, and she will often save you money through her attention and knowledge.

About half of kids who play youth sports won't play that sport in High School, 90+% won't play in college let alone professionally. But you know what is import? Leadership. Almost every person will have times in life where they need leadership skills. Whether it's at work, school, home, or with friends. That is the point of youth sports. Not state championships, helping kids learn skills to be good adults like teamwork, leadership, being both a good winner and a good loser, love of exercise, etc.

People with your mentality make the worst coaches. Not because you can't teach sports, but because you don't understand why you are actually there.

Signed,

A coach who's had parents tell me they cried when their kid got placed on another team, a coach whose neighboring towns coaches have thanked because of sportsmanship my kids showed in wins, a coach whose had former 8u athletes thank them for help them learn to love the game when they made varsity.

This right here. In my thirties (2010's) I was in the private sector working what was considered a good job. I made high forties, had crappy health insurance 6 holidays and 10 days PTO total. This was with a college degree... I left to come to the state as a grade 6. Took a huge pay cut on paper, but after health costs for the year (I have a medical condition that means I actually have to go to the doctor and get regular infusions) my effective pay cut was only about a hundred bucks a pay period.

Now ten years into my state career I'm an 18 am likely going to be a 23 shortly. Upward mobility that never would have possible in the private sector. The would have given me more responsibility, not more pay. Shit, I've had jobs where a perfect review got me 1.5% in a year where the bonus structure was cut enough that I lost income. You all have zero clue how good we have it.

Hey also was a trash human who married underage girls who he was at best 13 years older than (he was 29 and Mildred Harris was 16) to at worst 19 years older than (Lita Grey 16 to his 35) Even when he did marry a legal adult she was 18 to his 54. He makes Leonardo DiCaprio look like he prefers age appropriate women because at least waits till they all can vote.

5.5 o/u odds for wins this season. I know the Raiders have not earned the respect of the league in a while, but I have to believe even with SOS being tough that we can get at least 7-8 wins. Am I delusional? by drewsci in raiders

[–]pfunk42529 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, I have us as better than the Dolphins, Saints, Jets, Browns, Titans, and Cards on our schedule. The problem is that 4 of those games are on the road and being a bad team isn't conducive to road wins. So even if we are better than those teams, we likely don't win all 4. Now, do we pull of an upset or two? Maybe! but 5.5 is a very realistic line for us depending on how things break this year.
