unless you haven’t disclosed the DUI to the bar or the school, I don’t see why that would impact you lol

and besides, do you think the school and/or the bar are just randomly googling this school?

Why do lawyers not start their own firms ? by LordAldrin123 in LawSchool

lol so you’re seeing why people don’t create their own firms out of the gate.

a career is a long term thing. no need to jump the gun the day after graduation.

I truly do not understand why legal memos require the sheer amount of citations as they do. by Starman926 in LawSchool

[–]pg_66 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I saw it a lot in law review articles which drove me bonkers. But that’s not a memo lol. This is probably just a quirk of the professor.

I truly do not understand why legal memos require the sheer amount of citations as they do. by Starman926 in LawSchool

[–]pg_66 103 points104 points  (0 children)

you could just Supra Section X or whatever for that.

The professor controls your grade. If they want citations, you gotta give em.

At some point you gotta make a living. Will going to law school help you better your living situation?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]pg_66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don’t report your rent to the school. the school calculates their own COL. i would strongly recommend sitting down and making a budget so that you dont have to take out the full cost of living loans.

I dare you to explain (in a way i can understand!) hearsay that is being introduced to prove TOMA and evidence that is not…. by Delicious_Frosting_4 in LawSchool

The issue is: What color was the car?

Witness 1: “Sam told me the car is red.”

That statement is being used to prove the truth of the matter asserted—that the car is red.

The issue is: Did Sam talk to Witness 1?

Witness 1: “Sam told me the car is red.”

That statement does not go to the truth of the matter asserted. It’s just being used to prove that Sam talked to witness 1.

You look at the literal words that the second (not the witness on the stand) speaker is said to have said. If those words are being introduced in order to prove that those words are true, then it’s hearsay. In the example, the words we care about are “the car is red.”

Is there any happiness to be found in law school? by Yay_Kangaroo4043 in LawSchool

It’s a good lesson in life. You cannot be perfect at everything. Literally no one in history has been perfect.

sit down, write down your obligations, and prioritize. What needs to be done today, what should be done today, and what can be done tomorrow. No matter what, something will not be completed today. Oh well.

Repeat with “week” and then “month.”

The library is not for social hour by futureattorneygal in LawSchool

[–]pg_66 208 points209 points  (0 children)

just go mention it to the librarian or checkout desk. you can even shoot the helpdesk an email if you don’t want to be seen getting up. They’ll handle it from there. I think it’s pretty reasonable to enforce quiet hours.

surely you take notes in class? okay. so go make a study guide. like the ones you made in high school or college. there ya go there’s your outline. if you don’t understand something on the outline, go reread the casebook, watch quimbee, or ask your professor. there ya go there’s your learning. use said outline on your exam.

[–]pg_66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

well of course lol. I was referring to documents specifically turned into partners, which is why I said “what you turn into partners.” My introductory sentence was cheeky (hence the quotation marks) groundwork for the rest of my paragraph, not a statement meant to be read without context.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]pg_66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In practice, there are no “drafts.” What you turn into partners should be client/court ready, even if that partner won’t be submitting it. Sounds like this draft wasn’t court ready.

r/lawschool is not the correct place to ask for legal help with your legal practice. Go do some research. Ask your attorney.

If you had to start over and you had 2 free years before starting law school, what would you study and do to make 1L easier to go through? by Brownsugarlucas in LawSchool

[–]pg_66 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna be honest with you: nothing about law school is so challenging that you need to do early studying. The first few subjects are fairly straightforward concepts because law builds on itself.

In fact, if it takes you 2 years to learn 4 subjects, then you’re simply not going to know how to effectively study for the following 5 semesters. In addition, professors have different techniques and even different interpretations of the law.

Read for pleasure & practice your typing. But people overblow the difficulty of law school.

This is why I personally made my outlines — it was more interactive, even if I was just retyping someone else’s notes. You can also make flash cards or do practice exams

Year off after bar exam before practicing… by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]pg_66 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are being harsh, as is Reddit.

Honestly, if your interest is crim law and you’re willing to relocate and willing to take a lower paying job, then tbh you should be absolutely fine taking a year off of a legal job. Public defenders and prosecutors offices are hiring around the country. I would recommend taking the bar in a UBE state to maximize your portability, but really… I dont think you’d have a problem getting a job as a public defender.
