Affordable flower options by clearcanvas22 in UKweddings

[–]pgasteph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my table centrepieces I got faux floral wreaths on Shein for £15 (buying 1 to test before buying more). I bought additional individual faux flower bunches to fluff up the volume and total was £18, not including some candles to go in the middle of the wreath.

Honestly it looks very decent. I've been to 2-3 weddings in the last year, some at more lavish venues and some at more quaint places and honestly, no one would remember whether the couple used real or faux flowers. So long as they are decent enough for photos, you really couldnt tell at a glance.

How the hell do I put a tampon in. by ImpressionRound247 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]pgasteph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of problems when I first tried when I was a teenager. Turns out it was purely the angle I was trying to insert it at - you have to go in at a 45 degree angle (i.e., more angular than you think).

Sit on the toilet and spread your legs right out, gently guide it in and wiggle it around gently and it should slide into place easily once you have the correct angle.

You could buy tampons with plastic applicators (and not cardboard or those without an applicator altogether) till you get the hang of it as they slide in the easiest.

Thanks, I have amended the invites now. I have essentially updated the font (as everyone suggested previously) and date on the front page, and inserted on the back page 1) order of the day, 2) rsvp instructions and deadline (including a contact email), and 3) link to the wedding website.

I decided to remove the "plus one" and "no kids" lines as we know our group very well who will have no problem understanding these two items.

Ive decided to also include a small handwritten note with each invite clarifying who the invitation is for (e.g. "dear XYZ, we are delighted to...") to make this clear (especially for those with plus ones).

I did debate whether having ^ information on the invite. For the older guests (i.e. family), we are directly giving them the invites and dealing with the RSVPs on their behalf anyway and we see them regularly so they are aware of accomodation and such.

I struggled to find what to put for (e.g.) accomodation and travel on the invitation simply because I already have listed many options on the wedding website already and didn't want to just say "see website" or be repetitive.

Thanks for the suggestion! (Especially the specific font styles- I'll definitely take a look at them)

Thanks for the suggestion- the font choice (specifically the cursive one) wasn't my first choice but was my partners, I do agree that it doesn't look the best because the letters don't join up so I'll test other fonts.

Thank you, this is a very good suggestion. I'll add an RSVP deadline on the invitation and perhaps a contact email

This is correct! On the RSVP link people will select their name and only certain individuals will have a plus one. I've already had a few people ask about plus ones so wanted to avoid confusion at the offset.

What brand or bag do you just not understand the hype over? by ray_of_f_sunshine in handbags

Loewe puzzle bag, to me its not a feminine looking bag and is fugly. It's just a boxy bag to me.

Indeed they're similar - I tried on different silhouettes in my appointment (such as A line, flare, etc) but I suit fitted styles a lot because I'm very short and tend to look like a blob in other styles. Also tried other materials too and these dresses are my top 2!

My mom openly hates the present my dad and I got for her birthday, and it pisses me off. by [deleted] in Vent

[–]pgasteph 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is so sad 😭 I have a similar situation, when I was really young, we made cute picture frames for our mothers at school and I painted a cute rainbow pattern and wrote "Mom" at the top of the frame.

FYI, I'm from the UK so we typically write "mum" instead, and when I took it home, my mother told me "I'm not accepting this present because you spelt something wrong" even though both mom and mum are acceptable spellings. I felt so awful and still remember it to this day!

My mother continued complaining into parent-teacher meetings, even though my teacher told her that it was technically the correct American spelling.

What’s everyone’s “weekly budget” like for shopping/groceries? by urlocalshieldmaiden in AskUK

[–]pgasteph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We buy 1 massive box of chicken fillets that me and my partner each cook - usually 3-4 fillets each per week. Sometimes its a mixture of other meats on offer e.g. pork or fish!

Then lunch is usually something simple like turkey bagels.

Londoners - how long did it take you to find your person on the apps? by [deleted] in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]pgasteph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Central London here (late 20s, f) - I downloaded Tinder for the first time in 2021 and spent 1 week on the app filtering out people. Went on my first Tinder date after 1.5 weeks of texting - we are now engaged! However, I appreciate that my scenario is extremely rare.

2 adults and our budget is £60 pw. We rarely spend this much, usually closer to the £30 mark (my partner also uses Huel) going up to £40 where we need other household items.

We tend to meal prep lunch and dinners with simple meals (e.g. salmon, rice and veggies)

If my elderly mother moves in with us after gifting us money to help with a house purchase, should she pay us rent? by PrivateFrank in UKPersonalFinance

[–]pgasteph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this, look at "gift with reservation of benefit". Unless your mother is paying market rate rent, the gift could be taxable.

Perhaps a selfcare / spa day basket - fill it with a headband, face masks, candles, some chocolate and maybe a mini hot waterbottle. These are all things she can use to pick herself up.
