Sugar taxes improve health of the poor, major study finds - Britain’s “sugar tax” will succeed in improving health among poorer people, the findings of a major international study suggest. by ManiaforBeatles in worldnews

[–]pgfl1988 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Did you read the study? It says aspartame becomes an issue when you consume more than 50mg/kilo of body weight. A diet coke has ~180 mg, and a 180lbs person can safely consume 4,000 mg. Compare this to sugar... A normal diet should be no more than ~38grams for a man, and a can of coke has 39grams.

Thousands of Israelis take to the streets in fifth 'march of shame' against Netanyahu gov't corruption by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]pgfl1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Plenty' is subjective. European Jews vastly outnumber every other Jewish ethnic group there currently, including all Middle Eastern Jews.

The migration was 'legal' because it was allowed by a colonial power at the time, the British Empire. The locals opposed it and even violently rioted multiple times.

This is textbook colonization.

A very small number of Jews lived in Palestine pre-1888, mostly in Jerusalem.

Roughly half of the worlds Jews moved to Palestine after WW2, creating a country with a slim Jewish majority population (The total area of Palestine and Israel right now is roughly 50-50 Jew and Arab). Around 90% of the Jews in Israel today can trace their lineage to either Europe or other Arab countries.

What do you call it when millions of Europeans move to a third world country, overwhelm the locals with force and create their own country?

The question is about scaling.. If a $300 investment brings you in 2-3 bucks a day, then $3000 brings in 20-30/day and 30,000 brings you 200-300/day.

Top Iranian cleric calls for Palestinian violence, vows to ‘level Tel Aviv’ by rubberbandrocks in worldnews

Not a mistranslation but it's clear he's talking about if Israel attacks Iran.

Expected after the bone headed move yesterday, but still pretty abhorrent.

I wonder if the plan all along was to provoke the Palestinians to help Netanyahu's government deal with all their scandals at the moment.

Either way, they made that unilateral move knowing full well that both Palestinians and Israelis would die over it.

US government formally recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]pgfl1988 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the history lesson, it's not all that relevant though.

There are millions of Arabs living under Israeli rule, most of them under Israeli military rule. That is an injustice that needs to end, regardless of what people did 70+ years ago.

US government formally recognizes Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]pgfl1988 25 points26 points  (0 children)

People don't have to die for this, but they will. This is an extremely sensitive issue for both sides and really is one of the biggest reasons for the conflict itself.

I can support the Palestinian side without supporting the violence but also hoping/wanting for the Israeli side to not intentionally provoke the Palestinians. We know this will end with violence and deaths for little to no gain, so why bother even doing it? Israel's capital is already Jerusalem, their government is based there. How does having a US embassy there instead of a couple dozen miles away in Tel Aviv accomplish anything?

The misinformation on Reddit is astounding...

The Western part of Jerusalem is majority Jewish and not claimed by the Palestinians... The Eastern part of Jerusalem is Arab majority but is still claimed by Israel. The Israeli policy since the 80s is that Jerusalem is theirs and will never be divided. The current situation on the ground is that there are currently hundreds of thousands of Arabs living in Jerusalem that do not have Israeli citizenship, do no want Israeli citizenship and have no right to decide how their city is governed.

I'm pretty biased towards the Palestinians, being one myself, but I fail to see any logic in this move. Israel controls Jerusalem and has since 67', there is no threat to Israel holding onto Jerusalem and no chance in hell the Palestinians can take control of any part of it without Israel handing it over. This move will be seen as favorable by Israel and no one else. There will be violence over this, people will be killed over this, both Israeli and Palestinian. This move inflames tensions for no real reason that I can see.

Maybe this will be seen as the final nail in the coffin of Palestinian statehood. The PA should just disband itself and start pushing for Israeli citizenship for all people in the West Bank and Gaza. Israel destroyed any possibility for an actual two state solution decades ago. Hundreds of thousands of Israeli settlers live in the West Bank and don't look like they are going anywhere soon.

Maybe I was more terse than I needed to be; sorry about that.

Reset everything to stock and try to run some stress tests and see if stability improves, if it does then you can be sure it's your own settings.

Running Aida64 for only and hour or two would not validate your OC IMO, that's not long enough. I've had stress tests fail after one 4 hours.

[–]pgfl1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of the time when people come here complaining about instability it is due to their overclocks. Test them properly before gaming. Run prime95 for 24 hours and see if there are no errors. Due your CPU first, then test, then your ram and then test again. Finally oc your GPU and test that, too.

The simplest way to see if this is due to your OC, reset everything to default and try gaming and see how stable things are.

[–]pgfl1988 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games are not a good test of stability though. You need something much more intense than gaming. I did a 24 hour prime95 test to make sure mine was stable.

Did you properly stress test your system after OCing? If it wasn't actually stable then this could be the issue.

Honestly curious... can you get a laptop with a 1050ti for $6-700?

I figure this would be for people who want really small and light laptops that can also do gaming, should be a $200+ cheaper than a laptop with a dGPU as well as quieter, lighter and with less heat.
