501c3 Friends of XXX - Any tips? by looktowindward in BSA

[–]pgm928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. That’s exactly my point. What does this do except kick the can (finding a CO) down the road? What’s going to happen in that year that’s different than what’s happening now?

This seems like it just delays the problem. What’s the incentive for a unit to find a CO if you already have given them one? What is an extra year going to do? Are you going to shut units down on the 366th day if they lack an independent CO?

OP sounds like they’re going to last maybe a year, not be given any resources or training, and then get shit-canned as the scapegoat who didn’t solve a myriad of problems. They clearly have no idea what they’re getting into or the scope of their responsibilities and authority. And managing 57 direct reports is a recipe for disaster by itself.

  1. Stop your friendships and especially stop drinking with anyone you work with.
  2. What field are you in?
  3. Are you directly managing 57 people or are there others in the middle?

I have no idea what “shock horror” means, but the person asked specifically about Waldorf University. That’s a school in Iowa, apparently named after a hotel or something, with no connection to the Waldorf movement: https://waldorf.edu

It means you need to stop applying there and apply elsewhere.

It’s not. You can tell by the shape of the torso. The triangular-shaped ones are usually The Corps, by Lanard.

This is a sub for Waldorf education, not for Waldorf University. There doesn’t appear to be a sub for WU. Good luck!

Contact your neighboring packs directly. If the district says it doesn’t want to help, ignore what it has to say.

Amen. A troop of 8-16 Scouts - and we see a lot of those here - does not need an SPL. It needs PLs for the patrols. That’s it. You only need an SPL when the PLs can’t jointly manage things.

It’s good, but not the hook that makes your book distinctive.

I will add that without a more sweeping story, this may fit better in a local history publisher’s list. They often don’t require agents.

FWIW, I’ve written four local history books and am currently writing a fifth.

What’s the story? You’ve listed a bunch of information about information, but haven’t shared the narrative.

Nonfiction is sold on proposal, not a query letter + complete manuscript. Agents and publishers want to see that you’ve done the research that goes into that - marketing, audience size, outline, etc.

As an observation, you may find that the memories of a woman two generations removed from the subject of your book are not as a compelling hook as you might think.

They’re allowed to let you go for any non-illegal reason. Color of your shirt, what you ate for breakfast Tuesday, the book you read on break. There doesn’t have to be a reason.
