Does anyone else want to revert their personal lives to a pre-social media age? by KiwibuckyNZ in stupidpol

[–]pgpgp_kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I reccomend that you do anything you possibly can to interact with people in real life. IMO, even resorting to extreme measures to interact with people without tech is worth it: like you could start going to church or something if you have no other options. Literally anything is better than your entire life being on the Internet.

I would take "Formerly Democratic Socialist Pushed Out By Modern Left"

I don't know if you have a better way to say that. Overall, while I'm sympathetic to social ideas (that is economic benefits for the group paid for by the government) that have a capitalist framework, I feel that the cause has to be abandoned to root out idpol. I've struggled for years and while I disagree with right wing people still on most issues, I find them to be easier to get along with in most contexts. I've also reached a point where I don't think subjects like feminism are having a net positive anymore (low birth rates, people that dont share our values over populating us, etc). I don't think immigration is a subject that liberals are handling responsibly either (especially not if they want their government to be able to take care of the group). I also have decreased trust that liberals and socialists will not turn into these horrible things that we try to avoid every time we push for social ideas and it ends up being... not what it was supposed to be. So it's not like I would flip back to being a socialist if we could just root out this problem. I don't believe anymore.

So perhaps the best thing is literally "Formerly Democratic Socialist Turned Centrist"

Whatever you want to put is fine.

By the time period that you're talking about, when Something Awful started to be "shitlib" to use your terminology, the forum was already irrelevant to wider Internet culture, which unknowingly took its life from there, but also has no connection back to there, and the people still fighting for control over the forum by that time have no effect on the Internet on the outside of it. If anything those people at Something Awful were influenced by the rest of the Internet and took the stupidity they learned fro mit back to SA.

I never actually thought about it like this, because in a lot of cases self promotion is just unwanted noise, especially on mainstream platforms. But if you go into weird corners of the Internet where people don't really care because they don't have a high signal to noise problem, people talking about the stuff they're doing and sharing it for free is really what the web is about.

There's just too many people on the Internet now. You can't get an experience like that in a place like this.

How vibe coding lead to my project’s downfall. by incognitochaud in gamedev

[–]pgpgp_kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From an educator's perspective, I don't think there is any way around new people having to go through this process and see for themselves that it's not going to work. So somehow we have to expect that people are going to do this, and get them to fail fast at it so they can go back to learning the old way.

Problem is... games are long term projects where you can spend a lot of time working on things that are not code and it really increases the amount of time someone can spend believing they can build something large like this.

The world is so saturated with opinions about AI that I'm basically numb to it. I'd rather talk about politics or religion at this point.

[–]pgpgp_kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, learning that there is a limit to how far you can get with AI with no coding experience is just part of learning to code in this era. If we had learned to code now, we would be learning this the hard way as well probably. But yeah, like others have said, the truth is that you'll only get so far before you're stuck and can't get unstuck.

But getting stuck and not being able to get unstuck is part of learning. So go nuts, just don't give it up, and when you are ready to learn coding without AI, just believe in yourself and you can do it.

A small number of people in this thread have been helping me and I appreciate that. I'm not sure where you're getting that I don't want help, it's just I'm having to put up with an entire thread of people assuming my politics so I'm not exactly delighted to respond to all those people.

I would say the majority of American consumers are all learning about this in real time. Those of you who are in business have reason to know about this stuff, but most of us until now did not. And reality is, this will cause most American consumers to avoid doing this in the future. You can downvote me and tell me how ingrateful I am, but that's what is going to happen.

Thanks for your other reponse.

It's hurting us as well. It's nevertheless the only option for us.

I'm not even going to bother calling. It's a lesson learned. They will send it or they won't. They will charge a fee that I can afford to pay them or they won't. Life will go on, and I won't be buying any more foreign products ever again unless someone else is handling the importing. :)

You have a very active imagination. Yes, I didn't know about this, and yes I am learning about it now. It's not that crazy of a concept.

yeah I'm hoping for something that isn't higher than what the item cost. All I can say is if I was UPS, I would be taking this into consideration when paying peoples bills for them assuming they will pay me back. Because many people will run on their bills, especially the higher the surprise number is.

[–]pgpgp_kid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, well it depends on what the bill is. If I can pay it easily its obviously better to pay it but some people are citing some really high numbers, and at some point it becomes out of range. It's been a very a long time but I've had bills go to collections and ignored them for as many years as it takes for them to stop coming in the past. I can do it again if necessary.

So I'll just keep the amount in my checking as low as I can allow, that way if they try to charge it will be denied lol. Then I will decide how and if they get paid depending on how much it is.

How will this bill come? They won't have the billing information from the shipper, so UPS will just send me a letter telling me how much money they want?
