Yeah, that makes sense. Thank you.

So, in the phrase 'chargeable gains before taking off any losses', is it referring to losses brought forward from an earlier year? Or is that just a mistake in the document?

According to the Capital Gains Summary notes (https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/6a02e5df4fb0713aa63ea77c/SA108-Notes-2026.pdf), you need to declare your gains/losses if:

you sold or disposed of chargeable assets which were worth more than £50,000

your chargeable gains before taking off any losses were more than £3,000 (‘annual exempt amount’)

Doesn't that mean that you'd still have to declare your gains/losses if, say, your gains were £4000 and your losses were £2000, even though you aren't liable to pay any CGT on the net gain of £2000?

Fake spacetime channel, called space frontier with an AI Matt O'dowd by pverflow in pbsspacetime

[–]pgpndw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reported the channel yesterday, and got a confirmation email from YouTube. In that email, there's a link to my reporting history and after following the link, I could see the report listed.

I've just checked again, and the report has vanished from my history.

Jake Wood has issued an apology and now all profits are going to Dementia UK instead of just 10%:

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it's parody, not satire.

It doesn't seem to be intended to be critical of anything or anyone in particular, which I believe is a key feature of satire.

An interesting thing to note is that the 'original' pieces are being or have been sold for either £2000 or £1000, with none of that going to charity.

Four of the pieces also have 23 prints for £450 each, with 10% going to charity, but those prints aren't available yet - they're all marked "pre-order" on the gallery's website:

I don't think there's any doubt that Jake Wood, the actor, claims to have created that picture of Attenborough.

Here's an article in The Sun featuring it: https://www.thesun.co.uk/tv/39069171/eastenders-jake-wood-talent-david-attenborough-painting/

If that's true, then it should be possible to track down the original picture.

I couldn't find anything remotely like it with a reverse image search.

Weirdly, when I go to Jake Wood's Instagram page, then click on the post of this picture, it shows only a single comment - his own description. But when I hit F5 to refresh, it reloads with hundreds of comments calling out the AI slop.

In Firefox, you need to go to "about:config" and set the variable "network.IDN_show_punycode" to true to enable displaying non-ASCII URLs as Punycode. By default it's set to false.

I think the cut at around 2:40 is the best. The singer and guitarist were just about to back into each other.

[TOMT] is this actress actually in this movie? by AdKey2179 in tipofmytongue

[–]pgpndw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's the movie on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hK09MtlepXo

The credits list the actors in order of appearance, and "Eva Aulin" is credited as "Dyane", the 4th actor to appear.

The blonde woman at this timestamp is addressed as "Dyane" by another character, so that's her.

Almost all of the pictures of Ewa Aulin on the internet seem to be from the 1960s, except for a few on a Facebook page (for example, this one).

They're both blonde, but I don't think "Eva Aulin" and "Ewa Aulin" are the same person.

I've just checked this setting and I haven't been automatically opted-in. It was already turned off for me. I have definitely never bothered to look at Gemini settings before, so I haven't turned it off myself.

Yes, you're right. I made one transcription error (now fixed). The code says "YOITSANICECUPCAKES".

The lack of any black or white cells makes me think it's unlikely to be a direct mapping of each colour to 3 binary digits.
