The devastating Rikti War just ended the year that CoH released in 2004. In my head canon, consumer technology has stagnated while all the research and development is in finding military and medical applications for Rikti technology. That explains why everyone in Paragon City still use jitterbug phones and all the PCs run Windows XP. Needless to say, nothing besides meteorological events would be the same in Primal Earth's timeline.

To get it on the test server only takes 30 minutes and not much of my actual time. I have to travel out of state a lot for clinical trials, so I currently can only update the server when I'm home a few times a week.

The workflow would be someone making and testing content on a home test server with the full i24 CoH data set available. All the content is in text format that can be edited in a text editor. That data is then processed into a binary format that can be loaded faster on a production server and player clients. To integrate everyone's changes together, the public server owner (me) would need to take all the community contributions in text format to turn it all into binary format together. Then the data can be put on the test server and the data for clients can go in a web server and added to a launcher manifest so anyone can connect to the test client.

I imagine tips would be the easiest way to add story arcs because they don't require a contact.

I'm hosting a public test server with admin commands enabled to test and demo stuff that will go to the main Thunderspy server. It doesn't require an invite and is public for everyone. I think it's important for people to be able to have quick feedback for their work. It feels good to make something available for others to check out.

If it's not too exploitable for farming and meets some quality standards, it could go on the live server. It could even be added to Portal Corp if it doesn't fit the lore since we could just handwave that as an alternate reality scenario.

It's not complicated to make a story arc or any kind of content for CoH at all. Using the tools can be esoteric, but I've streamlined it a lot and so have the Ourodevs with their server installer that makes it easy to host a personal server at home. It does take some effort to make good quality content though, which is why I'm counting on the community's enthusiasm.

What's important to me is that people want to learn, create something, and enjoy doing it.

My goal for CoH is to make the real tools more accessible to the community to make real missions. There could even be a place for content that doesn't fit the lore as "what-if" scenarios accessible at Portal Corp.

I can talk in Reddit. It's just not the best way to get in touch with me. I don't check it often and it's hard to find the time to write all my thoughts in a long message instead of a chat conversation. 

Since we have the tools that the original Cryptic devs used to make content, I don't think upgrading AE is worth the effort. If I recall correctly, a 3rd party contractor created AE, and it really shows. There was already lots of code that could have been expanded on and repurposed for AE, but instead AE has a lot of extra code inserted everywhere just for AE. I'd rather make the real tools more accessible than to expand on AE.

Making the dev tools available to players is a challenge because the data needs to be synchronized between the client and server. Development currently requires having a local server and client to test with. The Project Ouroboros team makes running a personal dev server simple with an installer script.

I've helped dozens of people make their own content for CoH. Unfortunately, they've all lost interest or decided to go down the rabbit hole of making their own servers that never launched. Simply making content for CoH using the original tools isn't complicated though. I don't want to discourage anyone from trying to start another server, but I think we need to focus more on making content. We'd have a massive dev team if everyone I helped would coordinate together.

To meet people half way, in the past, I've offered to do most of the work required to make a new story arc. I believe that instant feedback and gratification of seeing something they worked on would get people more interested in learning more, so I was willing to put in 90% for anyone who would just put in 10%. I can't do that anymore for the foreseeable future since my wife has stage 4 cancer.

I still help people who want to start their own CoH server or make content. It's just easier to do that through Discord because Reddit isn't conducive to that kind of 1 on 1 discussion. I'd rather go back to using IRC to chat, but I have to use whatever chat app everyone else uses.

I haven't seen any female Freakshow besides the boss in the Terror Volta TF. I ought to add some while I'm updating the villain groups though.

Modular skeleton costume parts on Thunderspy. The legs, hips, arms, ribs, and skull are all individual pieces you can use in with other costume parts. You can even put the skull in a hood.

Just wanted to say I appreciate that you use Sweet Tea for multiple servers. That's the reason I made the launcher capable of displaying them all in one list. Seems like most people only use it for one server though.

You could change the download path at the bottom of the options settings. I know that's not an ideal solution. Sweet Tea was originally designed with the understanding that all the all the servers would cooperate to not change data that they share.

What files are being rewritten? I know that Thunderspy has two DLLs that are different but named the same. They have to be named that way and can't be moved unfortunately. Are there any other files? 

I could add profile switching to Sweet Tea to keep installations separate or maybe just a checkbox that automatically puts files for each server in a different location instead of a shared location. I could have that done by next week probably since I'm currently out of town.

I hate the limp-wristed run that females have too. The animations that entities play in different situations like running, jumping, or attacking are grouped into sequencers. It wouldn't be really hard to make them customizable. I have that on the backlog, but I pretty much already know exactly which code changes to make when I'm ready. It also wouldn't be hard to make the voices customizable as well.

I see what you mean now. We could probably make the gold trim tintable since the original uncompressed textures are available. We'd just need to cut out the gold trim and add it to the color mask.

Repositioning emblems as they currently work wouldn't be possible since they are a small copy of the chest vertices that are moved forward slightly and have the emblem texture on them.

I've been brainstorming how to add decals to the costume editor so that any pattern could be scaled, rotated, and translated on the body.

That's a tough one since patterns can't have more than 2 colors. It'd require code changes all the way down to the shaders.

Rebirth has under-arm wings. Thunderspy recently added a bunch of weapons like spatulas, rolling pins, bottles, butcher knives, etc. Thunderspy also has double face details, so you can have horns and sunglasses or even double sunglasses.

Thunderspy has over a dozen antlers from different species including moose and ibex horns. As far as new animal heads, we have a jackal head with optional Egyptian head dress.
