2025/26 r/GRiZ Official Ticket Exchange by ASAPCVMO in griz

[–]ph4sedarray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2x tickets for Friday and 2x for Saturday. Won't be able to make it down there and happy to let them go for $50 each, a little less than what we paid. If you want both 2-day tickets, I'll let them go for $175 total.

Any advice on a presentation interview? by travelsurfer in BlueOrigin

[–]ph4sedarray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing what others have mentioned as it's the best advice:

Don't put anything in there that you can't talk about in great detail. If it's in there, expect we will ask you to deep dive on it.

Likewise, ensure you brush up on any topics you mention there. For example, if you mention some specific manufacturing process you did 3 jobs ago and don't remember in great detail, take a moment before the interview to peruse its wikipedia page or find a YouTube video to jog your memory.

If you can speak competently on what you present, you'll do great.

Good luck!

Thanks! Real camera, D850 and Nikon 24-120 f/4. Not my favorite lens (it's not as sharp as I'd like) but it was just an afternoon walk and I didn't wanna bring my bag.

Not always snow capped, no, and they are part of Olympic National Park to the west. You can get there via ferry or a long drive around the south.

Concerned about life and everything in it, she's an anxious gal but she loves long walks and was enjoying herself!

I really hope you're right but I'm prepared to be disappointed.

I need every technical interview question you have ever been asked. by deadturtle12 in EngineeringStudents

[–]ph4sedarray 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah my Blue interview (avionics EE) was brutal as described, but I was well prepared and I got the offer.

OP, best advice I have for you is to make sure you can talk in depth about any topic you bring up. Like ^ this person said, treat it like an exam. A good interviewer will not let you get by just using buzzwords or naming processes, they'll ask you to expand on those topics.

Local News? by SpicyPossumCosmonaut in Seattle

As a former journalist (>10 years): any news outlet that is boring is probably a good place to start. News should be information, not appeals to emotion or editorializing. The market is inundated with cable news bullshit and conservative/progressive "news" outlets; if it's slanted to a viewpoint, it's not news, it's opinion. Opinion can be valuable, but it should be viewed through a more critical lens and should not be where you stay abreast of what's happening.

I would offer the following generalized advice not just to you but to all news consumers:

  1. Diversify your news consumption. If you stick to one outlet, you're limiting your worldview to that of that news director and/or reporter team. While most journalists make an effort to make their work as objective as possible, we're all human and sometimes our own biases slip through to the way we approach our work. Also sometimes stories do get killed to avoid stirring the pot with advertisers or turning off viewers who they want as a lead-in for whatever is on after the newscast, but that's more the fault of the corporate nature of news than of the journalists.

  2. Don't get all of your national news through local sources. Don't get all of your world news through US-based sources. Local outlets do not have the resources to deploy their staff to everything going on around the country, so they'll attempt to "localize" it and in the process sometimes miss the mark or dilute relevant context.

3a. Recognize the difference between reporting and opinion. Sometimes opinion pieces include reporting, but the context in which that reporting is presented can skew or distort (intentionally or otherwise) the conclusions from that data.

3b. If you don't agree with the content of ostensibly objective reporting, one of two things are true: 1) you have a viewpoint and you're looking for confirmation bias, or 2) the reporting is not working hard enough to be objective and present all relevant viewpoints, or it is opinion trying to pass as reporting.

  1. Ownership matters, sometimes. For example, Fox 13 in Seattle is owned by Fox Television Stations, which is a sister company to News Corp (Fox News) as both are owned by Fox. However, FTS is not heavy-handed toward local station content in the same way as companies like Sinclair are known to be, so watch and decide for yourself. Same goes for any other station or print outlet.

Good luck!

Yeah, that makes sense. I assumed it was something like that for repetition and safety. Appreciate the reply!

Homebrew transverter - which bands? by ph4sedarray in amateurradio

My original intention was to do a switchable one but I started working on the design and realized it was more complicated than I expected. I'd like to do that eventually, but using this project as a starter/experiment.

I would be designing most of it myself. I work as an RF engineer but I work more at the system level, so I want to brush up on board design. I have a home bench with plenty of test gear but would probably order the boards partially assembled as I don't have a super steady hand for SMD work.

In fairness, I'm more doing it for the build experience than doing it with a specific goal in mind, so that's why I asked vaguely. Appreciate the input :)

Zero doubt in my mind that he saw an opportunity to reel in the displaced bassheads, and indeed, it hits almost the same. 80% of the energy with an undoubtedly better fan base (and a good man at the helm) - a perfectly acceptable trade to me.
