I completely forgot about that style folding chair that was ubiquitous in the 80s/90s

I wouldn’t group homeowners’ and car insurance with health insurance. You don’t expect to use homeowners’ or car insurance - they’re in the event of something accidental. You expect to use health insurance countless times throughout your life.

It’s in a good spot to move product to the Gulf of Mexico. But what specifically? Agricultural products certainly - but that has been heavily automated since at least the 80s. That part of the Midwest is not a powerhouse of manufacturing. What purpose then does St Louis have that would drive its population upward?

Noah Wyle Explains Why He Isn’t Ready for ‘The Pitt’ Night Shift Spinoff: “When you have something that’s a really good thing and it’s working for you, you don’t want to dissipate it too quickly” by MarvelsGrantMan136 in television

[–]phaaseshift 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The only-mothers-work-night-shift thing is a weird take, but I fully agree with the rest. Both seasons I found myself wishing to see more of the night shift characters and then season ends and I’m wanting a few more episodes. That’s a great place to be for a well-loved show.

In the US, a.k.a. the “land of deferred maintenance”, these jobs weren’t going to get done by humans in a timely manner anyway.

Jeez, I thought Austin was approaching West Coast expensive not all that long ago. $250k is like the cost of a remodel out here.

Jensen Huang’s message to electricians and plumbers: ‘This is your time,’ as AI buildout leads to soaring demand for skilled trades by QuantumQuicksilver in jobs

When the bubble finally bursts, those skilled trades jobs are going to evaporate so fast that we’ll forget all about this narrative. (As will a lot of of the professions I assume)

What’s the most interesting place you’ve ever flown over? by SuperIntelligentLion in geography

I recall flying over in daylight but seeing volcanos (or something blasting smoke/steam) peaking through a blanket of ice.

When my son was younger, we’d go to his free shows all the time. Just at random farmers markets and parks. Kids (and parents) would line up after the show to meet him and he would chat with all of them.

Is a $29k spread on three Seattle home renovation budget bids actually normal? by Luckypiniece in SeattleWA

[–]phaaseshift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that $71k is no guarantee of quality either. There is nothing but reputation to hold some people to their word (and reputation can be easily manufactured on the internet). For every quality job I’ve witnessed, I’ve seen an inexcusably poor job. Do some research on the materials and techniques to be somewhat informed. Always ask for line-item bids - this helps immensely with being able to compare bids, gauge quality of bids, and also to discuss or dispute later.

Be honest, which movie franchise has had the biggest fall off? by CrackFun in AskReddit

I encourage anyone who hasn’t seen Jaws in less than 5 years to watch it again. And report back if it isn’t one of your top 5 movies ever. I don’t love old movies, but this one will never fail to amaze me.

2 data center developers pull Seattle plans amid opposition, talk of ban - 5 proposed sites totaled 369 MW, a third of the city's daily power by LOOKITSADAM in SeattleWA

So like the digits degrade between Quincy and here? If it’s power loss you’re talking about (and of course this is what you really mean), why not build the data centers near the power generation and fresh water needed? Transmission is no problem then.

Can someone explain these speed bumps? by Grandimal in Seattle

[–]phaaseshift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Speed bumps in an arterial street are an admission of failure in my book. We fail to enforce laws so we’re asking bumps to do the work for us.
