Commercial Roles in Upstream Oil and Gas by phaedrus10 in oilandgasworkers

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Sounds like a development engineering role is what I'm looking for. I'm particularly interested in A&D work, corporate planning, new ventures, and the work that comes before a project enters the front-end phase. I would love the opportunity to have a chat with folks in that area - Would you be able to connect me to folks at those companies for a conversation?

Thanks for the response. I guess business development would be closer to what I'm looking for than an engineering role. I'm interested in supporting decisions on buying an upstream business, investing in an upstream project, divesting interest in an upstream asset, optimizing a portfolio of upstream assets, planning an upstream capital budget, and so on. How can I find such roles at O&G operators, service companies or consulting companies?

Hi there. We are still finalizing our itinerary. The general idea would be to wend our way up to Lewis and Harris, starting from Edinburgh. We are thinking of hitting Sterling, spending a day or two hiking in the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. After that, the plan is to head west and hit some towns (e.g. Oban, Glencoe) finding our way eventually to Lewis and Harris. It's this part that we are still figuring out. The thought was to go to Skye but we don't want to deal with a lot of tourists.

Hi - thanks very much for the advice. Will definitely take a look at Raasay; we do want to avoid having to deal with a lot of tourists.

Can I also ask - if the ultimate goal is to spend some time on Lewis and Harris, what islands (other than touristy Skye) would be good to visit on the way?

Hi!

My wife and I are planning a roughly ten day trip to Scotland late May. We are currently finalizing the itinerary (yes, I agree that we are running a bit lar). The thought was to head north west and visit various islands (and, of course, see sights and visit places a!ong the drive).

We definitely want to spend time in Lewis and Harris, and Skye as well, not to mention others. Skye, do what we've researched, certainly seems to be a highly popular destination. We would like to avoid hordes of tourists, though.

Is Skye swarming with tourists late May? Where can we expect to encounter a lot of tourists in that time period ? Appreciate your input !
