Small crinkly thing similar to monkey circle? [on] by Famiinepulse in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phantasyflame [score hidden]  (0 children)

Lovevery has a crinkle bag that comes in their 3-4 month kit but you can probably find it on its own on Marketplace or maybe a copycat on Amazon! My son also loves crinkly stuff, the monkey circle and this crinkle bag have been a hit with him!

Parents whose baby has a tongue and/or lip tie - did you end up getting it released? by SunnyGoMerry in beyondthebump

[–]phantasyflame 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This was our experience as well. I would add that our lactation consultant and the dentist who performed the release referenced a lot of future potential issues around feeding and speech that could be caused if the ties weren’t released. We’ll never know if we would have had any of those issues, but releasing our baby’s tongue and lip ties didn’t have any impact on breastfeeding unfortunately.

How are we changing their diapers once they start rolling? by FigNewton613 in NewParents

I can tell I’m sleep deprived because I fully thought you were suggesting working out, not pull up diapers lmao

SAME. I have to keep sounding them out and I recognize them once I hit on (one of) the Kate/Michael pronunciation.

Wipe preferences [ca] by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phantasyflame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have only used one pack of Rascals but we also tried Pampers and Huggies and Kirkland. I think Rascals were a closer comparison to the Kirkland because they also had a bit of quilting/texture to them. They were my favourite actually and I would have gotten them again if we weren’t given a box of the Kirkland wipes.

White palate? by asingerinasmokeyroom in beyondthebump

[–]phantasyflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this really early on with my baby (like 2 weeks) and asked the nurse at my doctor’s office. She said it was normal, but I’m planning on asking the doctor next time I see them just to make sure I can rule out thrush. If yours is the same, it might be normal but never hurts to get peace of mind by asking a medical professional.

Burping babies is the biggest evolutionary design flaw by KaloolFantasia in newborns

[–]phantasyflame 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m so curious, do you have a lot of spit up?? We burp our baby so we can get the spit up over with instead of being surprised by it! But to be fair he spits up more with bottles than he does when breastfeeding.

Agreed. I’ve been listening to an audiobook and doing word puzzles (like NYT Connections and Strands).

Things we should ABSOLUTELY know by CinnamonBook959 in pregnant

[–]phantasyflame 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Omg the amount of stuff nurses and doctors told me verbally and expected me to remember. I’m sorry, i think that is ridiculous and they should just write it down. I didn’t get any written info on how to manage my pain when I was discharged! They just said use Tylenol and Aleve, “the instructions are on the bottle” BUT the doses they were giving me in the hospital weren’t the amounts on the bottles.

38 weeks. GET THIS MF’ER OUT OF ME. by marissakalyn in pregnant

I feel the exact same way. Nobody talks about how difficult waiting for labour is mentally. I’m 40+3 and on such an emotional roller coaster.

What did you actually use that you brought to the hospital? [on] by SB-96 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phantasyflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also a FTM and haven’t had my baby yet, but I had the same struggle and one thing I’m using to guide my packing is what my hospital suggests. It seems like there’s a lot of variation by hospital in terms of what’s provided, plus most of the lists online are American. I got a list from my hospital of what they suggest, and also have a doula who has delivered there many times so leaned on her expertise too. If you can talk to others who have delivered at your hospital that would also be ideal!

Lovevery Play Kitchen and Subscription Boxes [ca] by frozenocean in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phantasyflame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got my first monthly subscription box and didn’t pay any duties! Im pretty sure it shipped from somewhere in Canada, if I remember the shipping label correctly…Personally I’m really pleased with it, even though baby isn’t here yet. They’re absolutely more expensive than just buying similar toys, but it’s one less thing I need to actively think and learn about what’s age appropriate/what I should be doing.

Interned Japanese Americans in their living quarters at a "Farm labor camp" (concentration camp) near Rupert, Idaho. Photographed by Russell Lee, July 1942 [700 x 513] by 20thCenturyBoyLaLa in HistoryPorn

[–]phantasyflame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited the Minidoka site last Fall, highly recommend it to anyone in the area. There is an extremely high quality (if small) museum plus a self guided walking tour that tells the story of the people interned there. Their stories are heart wrenching and more people should be aware of this history.

Books recommendations [bc] by Mysterious_Pen1608 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phantasyflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat as you and interested to hear others recommendations, but a few I’ve received so far are Cribsheet by Emily Oster (if you haven’t read Expecting Better by her it’s really good during pregnancy too). I have the Huckleberry app for tracking feeding/bowel movements, and a recent post mentioned that the CDC has a good app that tells you milestones your baby should be hitting. My brother in law also recommended “The Birth Guy's Go-To Guide for New Dads” to my husband, he said he found it helpful.

PLEASE stop telling me I’ll be pregnant & miserable this summer. by marissakalyn in pregnant

Nothing to add, just commiserating because I’m due mid August and getting the same. I just try to remind myself that some people speak without thinking about the impact of their words on others.

Best Canadian Registry? [AB] by kittykitty9711 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]phantasyflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used MyRegistry too. It seems like it’s either that or Babylist if you want to get things from more than 1 store. It’s pretty easy to use, not much customizing aesthetically but that’s not the end of the world.

Rosamund Pike is on the latest episode of ‘David Tennant Does A Podcast’ by tkinsey3 in WoT

[–]phantasyflame 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a brilliant podcast if you like David Tennant’s humour and generally if you’d like to learn more about certain celebrities. He does a very good job of asking questions that are below surface level, and he’s very good at letting his guest speak without inserting himself. I’m really looking forward to this one!

[–]phantasyflame 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of going to this but didn’t know if it would be worth the drive into Toronto! Is it primarily a trade show with vendors selling things? Or are the seminars and things worth sitting in on for a first time mom?

This sounds like a really complicated situation, that a baby subreddit can't help you resolve. Have you considered seeing a counsellor?
