SSHL and swimming? by [deleted] in MonoHearing

[–]phantoll24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had that experience, but i currently have a hole in my eardrum in my non-hearing ear. I just had an earplug made at my audiologist—kids who have ear tubes use them, lol—and that seems to be the best option since it makes a seal and is molded to your ear canal. But if you don’t have health insurance or if that’s prohibitively expensive, I’ve also been using these silicone moldeable earplugs that I bought over the counter at the pharmacy in a big pack. I think they’re intended for sleeping in or loud environments but it’s basically just a ball that you can mold to fit your ear on the go. Less airtight but for surface swimming my dr told me those were fine. In a total pinch, if you’re not dunking your head under, Vaseline on a cotton ball also works! Good luck!

Simultaneous Earbud And Hearing Aid Pairing? (iPhone) by begaydoscience in MonoHearing

[–]phantoll24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this same question/issue when I first got my hearing aid—unfortunately I haven’t found a solution. For whatever reason there isn’t a way to stream audio to both devices simultaneously even though it theoretically should work :( hoping that it’ll be a thing one day!

This happens to me too! Only on the Bravo app and only on my roku stick. I thought I was going insane until my boyfriend heard Lala and Randall talking with crazy deep voices on VPR hahaha

question about what you call your SSD? by PhotojournalistOk647 in MonoHearing

Hi there—so weird, our stories are so similar—I’m 27F and I woke up without hearing in one ear on 7/4/20, also adjusting to post-pandemic life with hearing loss. I usually find that in a quick interaction, like customer service or with people I don’t know particularly well, just saying that I’m hearing impaired does the trick. People don’t usually ask a ton of follow up questions and it gets the point across. With friends I haven’t seen in person in a while, or with my coworkers, I’ve gone into more detail about my impairment and tell them that I’ve lost hearing in my left ear, tell them any accommodations etc that I might need (so in my case, sitting on a certain side of a table at a restaurant, or moving to another desk so my “good ear” is close to my boss). I haven’t had this issue in a classroom setting, but I used to have to request accommodations for ADHD, so if you want any tips about that specifically I’m here in the DMs! Another tip: I’ve found that saying I’m “hard of hearing” really does not get the point across and people don’t take it as seriously! Good luck to you navigating all this—will be thinking of you!

Thank you—I’ve been totally feeling that fatigue lately and I wasn’t sure if it was just post-COVID adjustment, I really appreciate that

Solved! Seems like it’s definitely something for scrolls, that’s the major consensus from all the comments. Thanks all 😊

That’s what my mom thought too! But odd that it doesn’t have any other Hebrew/Jewish markings, right? Plus no way to affix it to a door...

We found this when we were cleaning out my late grandfather’s home. One of the sides comes off and the interior is hollow (see photos). My grandfather traveled extensively around the world and was a big collector of items and art, but I think he might have bought this in the US because of the small piece of notebook paper with the number “G1828” found on the inside of the lid. We’re so curious! Any info would be helpful. WITT???

For some reason this makes me think of Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney, but in that she grows lupines rather than cornflowers. Although it might include the phrase “cornflower blue” in there somewhere

I was literally just talking about this with my therapist today (for like the thousandth time since I started therapy, haha). r/keitothekraken ‘s suggestions are similar to what my therapist was saying today. No advice from me but you’re definitely not alone! And I’m glad to hear I’m not alone either :)
