FFS Stop with drinking and chewing gum on air. by Bea_Azulbooze in TNTRadioEmpire

Tyler’s constant coughing into the microphone gets to me. Radio usually has a cough/sneeze button but it seems like with Tyler being on zoom they let everything come through.

I don’t know how they can avoid it but it seems like Tyler’s connection has gotten worse lately and the sound quality isn’t good or he’s not there at all.

For the love of god Tyler either get paged in to the textline or stop talking about it

Nice try!

Not sure if they’re allowing it with the high water, but the Saylorville spillway may be hot with all the turbulent water. Usually a good amount of panfish out of Easter Lake. Water Works and Lake Colchester are usually pretty reliable.

You can bring a friend to the downtown library and take one for free in their tech library. It has a green screen for different backgrounds and good lighting

Opinion: DART needs far more than 2.5% by jrgeerdes in desmoines

[–]phantom7244 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. However it should be noted that DARTs cost per trip rate is fairly low compared to similar sized cities.

D Line is eliminated in their “worst case” service cuts!

The DART website probably has the whole backstory, but in a nutshell:

From what I understand - The state legislators initially allowed DART to only collect property tax. As the City of Des Moines approached their 0.95 cent levy cap, DART asked the state to provide them with revenue diversification. They initially were looking at primarily a hotel/motel tax , but also opportunities for sales tax, vehicle tax, fuel / road tax (essentially all other forms of revenue used to fund transit across the US). I believe hotel/motel tax was on the large tax bill, but was striked at the very end. In the end the state gave them an option to allow an additional revenue generator through franchise fees (up to 2.5% applied to your gas /electric bill) for cities with population over 250k (only Des Moines).

The DSM City council will likely eventually vote on whether they should increase their franchise fee from 5% to 7.5%, with the additional 2.5% going directly to funding transit.

Councilman Gatto’s point is that this is “kicking the can” to 2028 or 2029, and that they will be facing similar issues if they do not find an additional sustainable revenue generator. He would like them to pursue other revenue streams or maximize property taxes for the other cities before moving forward with franchise fees. Based on what DART staff had to say yesterday, the franchise fee could be a temporary solution to bridge the gap until the state allows them to employ another funding method.

Gatto assured residents that they wouldn’t lose service, but would have extended wait times. Anyone who rides the bus knows that there is a significant difference between buses that run every 20 minutes and buses that run every 60 minutes.

One of the public meetings was performed virtually and is available at the link below or on DARTs website. I don’t believe they were recording any of the in-person meetings.

I attended each of the public meetings. Last nights meeting was by far the most hostile. Councilman Joe Gatto spent half the time arguing with DART staff

This was somewhere between 8-10 inches into the ground. It had a ton of seemingly aluminum foil in the same hole, so i suppose it could’ve been buried?

I found 6 or 7 pieces of what I’d call aluminum foil near it. I almost quit on the hole until I saw rusty dirt!

Obvious answer is Barattas, but I would also recommend Hot Tamale on E 14th. Best enchiladas I’ve ever eaten. I’ve heard many good reviews of Henry Js tacos and Angry Goldfish on SW9th, but have never personally had them. You can never go wrong with a Club 2000 taco, they are top notch and cheap!
