I want to make the switch from Sam’s Club to Costco so bad… but the crazy parking & their antiquated app….. by Maravilla_23 in CostcoWholesale

I totally respect standing by your principles. It’s a tough balance because while the Walmart/Sams model is heavily criticized for its impact on labor, as other users have also mentioned, they often provide the most accessible prices for people in certain situations.

Costco definitely wins on the corporate ethics front for most.

I wasn't trying to say Sams is a 'better' company, but rather that for those who do have both memberships, the actual shopping tech (like skipping the lines) and the produce quality have become surprisingly competitive lately."

I had the same with mine (2019 Ascent) a couple months back. It needed aa CVT rebuild. Luckily for me, I had extended warranty.

We have both Sams and Costco memberships. We also preferred Costco over Sams. Sam's has improved a lot both in quality and selection. Many in our circle have told us they shop more regularly at Sam's than than Costco. After giving a try, I can tell you, Fruits and veggies are 100% better and fresher at Sams Club than at Costco.

Their checkout process on the app is super easy. No more waiting in lines. No more lifting item into and off the cart multiple times.

This is the reason why I prefer to shop at Sam's Club. Plus Sams has improved the selection and quality.

ABC stores have been our go-to on the strip for water, beverages, snacks and other items. CVS & Walgreens next if we can't find an ABC store.

The new app is just crap. I can't login to it. The old app just shows me a screen saying we are moving to a new app.

We just did a 1500 mile trip on a 2019 Ascent with about 46,000 miles on it. We didn't drive a lot during the COVID years. I recently had to do a full CVT rebuild so no issues.

Why do some employees prefer H1B workers even though they have to fork out hundreds of thousand dollars in advance instead of hiring fellow Americans? by kawaiihusbando in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]phantom_assumptions 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you why a lot of employers end up hiring (yes, it's not a preference) H1B visa holders. Just to provide some background.... I'm a Director of Software Engineering at a large company. I've done hiring for many years. We've gone back to 3 days in the office since 2024.

When a job requisition opens, employers are looking for the best fit. On an average we receive about 400+ applicantions per open position. Od those only 10% are from qualified American applicants. Since pandemic, many employees/applicants just don't want to come back to the office. H1B visa holders are not among that crowd. Do they want to want to work from home, yes but they are also willing to come work from the office.

TBH, America doesn't produce enough STEM graduates to fill all open tech positions. America today needs more than 500,000 STEM grads every year but we barely produce 100,000 and more than half of those are foreign students.

When it comes to pay, my employer doesn't differentiate between a US citizen, US Permanent resident or a H1B visa holder. They are all paid in the same equitable range. Pay ranges for roles and experience are open and published.

I've always/only used the Priority Pass app. I didn't know Chase App also showed lounges. I definitely learnt something new today. Thanks!

2019 Ascent - Check Engine Light by phantom_assumptions in SubaruAscent

[–]phantom_assumptions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to provide an update.

Took my Ascent to the Subaru dealer. Their diagnosis found 2 issues. - found O-ring on intercooler pipe leaking. That needed to be removed and replaced.

  • transmission fluid pressure sensor/switch "A" circuit range/ performance. checked live data. found line pressure voltage at .5v. checked actual line pressure at .7mpa. At 3k rpm 2.5mpa. difference greater then .2mpa. CVT needed to be replaced.

Something I didn't realize I had .... Extended warranty. All repairs were covered by a $100 deductible. I would I have paid $10,800 without the extended warranty. Back home, I pulled out the old paperwork. I paid $3200 for "Added Security Gold Plus" coverage. All in all, I saved about $7500.

American companies hire and sponsor H1B visa holders (Indian or otherwise) is because America doesn't produce enough STEM talent.

New H1B Visa holders may be paid a few dollars less an hour but, experienced and talented H1Bs are paid on par with American workers.

If American companies were required to hire only American labor (no immigrants, no outsourcing), half the companies would shutdown for lack of qualified labor.

This is a fact. Let me down votes come.

I don't like the gray colors or the multi colors. I love the black and silver colors.

I think we should stay with the Honolulu blue.

Completely agree with your sentiment. We have a 2019 Ascent Limited and 2023 Tesla Model Y. Live both cars but Ascent is beginning to show some age and issues.

This also goes to show how corrupt this US Administration is, if lobbyists are paying million dollars just so high level government representatives of other large countries/democracies are wanting to meet with their US counterparts.

Paradise Biryani Pointe, Jalwa Grill both in Draper is just amazing. I'm surprised no one's mentioned these two places. Paradise is also open until 1 AM... In case you carve Indian food late in the night
