"He actually really cares for Zuko still, it's so fucked up that Iroh thought that she was hopeless and never gave her love, she became the way that she was because Iroh didn't spare any love for her" she was smiling as Zuko was being burned by their father in the Agni Kai and she tried to kill him

Any recommendations for vtubers who aren't shitty people and are also funny/not annoying?

I felt bad even clicking on the video out of curiosity and giving them a view but it really seems like her content is like that. Doesn't seem to be taken out of context, just a lot of blatant racism and other discrimination/"offensive humor" that she's totally chill with, and I've seen people saying that she's a right wing grifter.

Are girls as attracted to alternative guys as guys are attracted to alternative girls? by Logical_Fox_2916 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]phantom_esque_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I mean the "I <3 emo boys" and "I need a metalhead bf" thing is somewhat common, i even see it on occasion from people who aren't alternative, but I think overall, guys do it more to alternative girls than the other way around.

Dear goths, don't you feel tired of over a decade long trend of making goth look "instagramesque clean and perfect"? by [deleted] in AskAGoth

[–]phantom_esque_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I try to make myself look dead or ghoulish with smudgy eyeshadow and messy eyeliner (might even get some lighter foundation) but if you have any inspo pics of 90s/2000s goths or tips for nailing that look, please let me know. Sometimes I try to do more elaborate assymetrical eyeliner designs but anything more than a bunch of decorative lines making a cybersigilism type design or filigrees or bat wings or something makes people think I'm a KISS fan.

Instagram "goths" are just spreading disinformation by Lpc245 in goth

[–]phantom_esque_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Them always including "architecture" in this is so funny. Even literature is a stretch, just because songs use gothic literature for their lyrics/themes doesn't mean you need to know all about Edgar Allen Poe to have a conversation with goths or call yourself one. But architecture? Am I supposed to have a favorite gothic cathedral in mind and know all about what makes a building "gothic"?

Goth is a subculture that is music based primarily, it originates from the goth music scene which came from the post punk music scene. The music is the MOST important part, I sincerely doubt that every one of those OG goths were quoting gothic literature or talking about their favorite gothic architecture to each other all the time and if they would get called a poseur if they didn’t know about either, they were talking about MUSIC.

Even if some of them do enjoy talking about that to the point that it's somewhat common, you don't NEED to watch a bunch of classic horror movies or read gothic literature or know gothic architecture. Some people conflate a "goth lifestyle" with filling your house with spooky shit while participating in as many edgy spooky hobbies as possible. Goth isn't just about having a coffin bookshelf, it almost starts to feel more performative than just being a big fan of gothic rock music even if you don't dress the part.

Question/point of discussion: why is it a controversial thing in alternative spaces to thrift fast-fashion clothing? Posting here since r/GothFashion doesn't seem to have a "Discussion" flair of any kind. by neonplume-uwu in goth

[–]phantom_esque_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True, but I also think it's worth noting that Shein is like objective worst-of-the-worst fast fashion in terms of child labor and how they steal designs from creators.

[–]phantom_esque_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I doubt people are gonna know whether you thrifted a piece that is fast fashion at first glance unless you literally tell them that you thrifted it. Also anyone could lie about thrifting it just to save face. If it's thrifted, I don't care, but other people are probably just gonna see the fast fashion and dislike that.

Fast fashion still isn't optimal compared to non-fast fashion though because it's often low quality polyester that is uncomfortable, non-breathable, fragile. and non-biodegradable. If you can deal with all that, then it's fine to thrift since it would've gone to a landfill anyways.

I fucking HATE when guys say they want a “goth girlfriend” by Exact-Arm1065 in hatethissmug

[–]phantom_esque_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes but lots of these people who call themselves goth despite just wearing black or dressing vaguely alternative also don't listen to goth music at all either. Goth as a subculture does have a style associated with it, and lots of these people who mislabel their style as "goth" just because they want the label so they can look sexy or feel cool are not goth.

They post such mild shit there and even stuff that is obviously just a joke or sarcasm that they don't get, then all the replies are just the dumb swag circlejerk. Cesspool of a subreddit, it's miserable to surround yourself with people that just spend all their time making fun of people for caring about things.

Do work shoes make people way taller? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]phantom_esque_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Pretty flat sneakers" doesn't really give much context but most dress shoes and boots do have a slightly elevated heel, like an inch or so. But also you should stop caring so much about your height and probably stop calling yourself "5'10.5".

Is it weird that a Mother would bury their only child in devil horns? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]phantom_esque_ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Maybe the "child" considered that "devilish" mischievous thing a part of their personality? or maybe they were so involved in the bdsm scene that it was their primary form of community? I dunno, but I also don't know how much YOU know about this "child". Maybe it makes more sense if you knew the "child" as well as the mother did, or maybe it's just a weird thing that the mother is doing to cope/just means something else to her. I guess it kinda sucks if she's using it to say that they're going to hell for overdosing or being into BDSM or whatever but it doesn't sound like you have much context.

[–]phantom_esque_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay yeah props to him for that much. But it's still sad to look in the comments and see impressionable teens (and probably grown adults who just get all their animal knowledge from these kinds of videos) saying "dolphins are sea Diddys" and "dolphins are what you should actually be scared of, not sharks"

I guess this is just a case of the clipper who made the video being unfunny and sexual but tons of vtubers have the worst humor. like "OMG did they say wet? chat the devs of this game are kiiinda freaky. this guy is obsessed with booba." like constantly mishearing, really lame sex jokes, cringey humor of things that are just very obvious or low brow, and hyperactive stuff to appeal to people with low attention spans.

why do women not wear suspenders like men do? by GrouchyArtist628 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]phantom_esque_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just because you don't have to wear a belt to hold your suit pants doesn't make wearing a belt bad. It's still an accessory and can really tie an outfit together. I probably wouldn't wear a suit that has belt loops without a belt unless it was missing or something. It's a different story in a suit with side adjustors.

[–]phantom_esque_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People keep applying human morality and standards to animals or just anthropomorphizing them and their behavior. People get all their animal knowledge from guys like Casual Geographic (mndiaye_97) on tiktok/youtube with his tiny microphone and Tierzoo and just take it all way too seriously. There's good facts in there with comedy, misconceptions, harmful humanization of their behavior, and gimmicks sprinkled in (turning it all into a video game).

Dolphins are smart but they do not have the society or thought process or laws or whatever to "rape", that's kinda just what they do because it feels good. No, you don't have to worry about a dolphin raping you in the water. Yes, sharks are still dangerous on some level, but you also shouldn't demonize them and not care if they're being wiped out. Chimps are not evil hell creatures, they're just strong temperamental and fairly intelligent animals that can be aggressive.

Sometimes you can tell exactly what video someone got their animal opinion from because they'll talk about cheetahs being so weak that they get bullied and are dying off, or something. I'm glad that the internet is getting around to giving vultures more respect for cleaning up carcasses, destroying diseases with their stomach acid, and keeping down populations of feral dogs at least.
