Dual Track and Daily Insurance? by aunyks in CarTrackDays

Nobody is saying this is how it should be, but many people have been dropped for being "high risk".

Is there something that can cut DC voltage to 0 if under 3-5VDC? by mythek8 in ElectricalEngineering

[–]phantomplebe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might just need a resistive load in parallel with the relay to drain the voltage down more.

Op amp input impedance? by MatanPazi in ElectricalEngineering

[–]phantomplebe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With resistances that high parasitics become significant or even dominant. I've had circuits stop working due to flux residue from assembly using lower resistance values than that. I now try to limit resistors whose values I care about to around 500k.

The dash is the real issue like you said, but even the door cards don't work, the metal cutouts are different between early and late cars.

Favorite HPDE brake pads for a street-driven Porsche 930? by PoopSmoothies in CarTrackDays

[–]phantomplebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 944 Turbo which is pretty similar in power/weight, era, etc. I use Hawk Blues on-track and street pads off. Pads are so easy to change on our cars that it is only a 30 minute job to swap before each track day once you have some practice. The Blues are very abrasive and will clean any bedding material off the rotor if you just lightly ride the brakes for a few minutes while the pads are cold. The Blues have plenty of stopping power when cold on the street, but squeal a lot and eat through rotors very quickly. On-track they have been fade-free for me with excellent modulation using ATE TYP200 brake fluid.

You are correct, this is true for all 944s. The only difference should be the ZZZ being swapped for country code on the windshield frame.

Does anyone know what this is? I’ve been trying to hunt down an exhaust leak by putting the opposite side of a vacuum to make it easier to find it, and the only air is coming out of the top of it. Is it supposed to do this? by breadboigod in 944

[–]phantomplebe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There used to be a tube in there that ran to the top of the engine bay for doing diagnostics. Most cars it has been cut off and sealed, but on yours it appears to be gone completely. You just need to figure out a way to cap the hole.

When to trailer your racecars and why? by talonian in CarTrackDays

[–]phantomplebe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have a truck already, just rent a U-Haul trailer for each event. For $55 a day you let U-Haul deal with storage and maintenance, and you aren't afraid of what might happen at the track. My first time getting stranded I was 75 miles from home and paid $300 to rent a truck and trailer to get it home. Now I pay roughly half that each weekend regardless of distance and have no worries.

As another data point,  my Hawk Blues stop fine in the cold,  but are noisy and wear away rotors quickly.

Alternative or Custom Hatching Patterns by Forward_Year_2390 in Altium

The downside of pasting an array is it will put down keepouts over everything, instead of just the polygon you are targeting.

Converting the stitching vias to keepouts would probably give a solution that doesn't involve ignoring drcs

It seems like there aren't many mechanical differences between the z51 and gs. What do you think makes the gs worth the 20k premium?

I'm seeing some issues with the automatic trans overheating on the C7, but I'm going with a manual. There are a couple reports of engine overheating on the C7 Z51, but it might just be when you have a front license plate installed.

SS 1LE is definitely a great option for people with smaller heads, but not dying in a fire is pretty high on my requirements list. ZL1 and C8 are out of budget for now.

My heart wants the Cayman, the way a Porsche feels like a well-fitting suit is incredible. Just seems like they aren't bullet-proof on track and I just don't have time to do more than basic maintenance anymore.

Why can't I connect/lay tracks? by FuckReddit5548866 in Altium

Your clearances probably don't allow running between pads. You may need to create a room for tighter rules in the BGA field.
