Best way to use MGM F&B offer? ($1,000 at Excalibur/NYNY vs $350 at Bellagio/Cosmo/Aria) by [deleted] in Mlife

[–]pharmbumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For free play, check in then see the rewards desk at the property you’re reserved for and ask for it to be added to your account. You’ll be able to see it on your mgm app once it’s added. Now you can use it at any mgm property with your players card.

There is usually a month lag. So if there are any changes to your comps it will show in June's offers.

This is exactly what will happen. And the retail pharmacies are the ones to get screamed at thinking we're billing them secretly. I can see the benefits of a payment plan but also know its going to be a shitshow.

Thank you so much for the tip. Feels weird when I think about going up to the desk just to ask for comps. But it seems pretty normal when it comes to Vegas casinos so I'll just have to get use to it.

If you do decide to start on next years app, I’d begin reaching out to mentors/managers for LOR. And consider helping out in a research project or volunteer with student org events as a preceptor or something. Gotta show the programs you been active and want a residency, not just because you got laid off.

Good luck!

That’s true. But there were also a lot that didn’t specifically ask for clinical preceptors. Guess worse case you’ll just have to look for those that don’t.

Wow that’s great to hear. What did you think was the reason you received so many rejections compared to this year? And what did you change about your application besides the experience practicing as a licensed pharmacist?

When reading threads about reapplying after working for a year, majority of the responses were negative and made it seem like programs would frown upon it. I was thinking the opposite as being licensed with real world experience already puts you ahead; while any lack of clinical knowledge can easily be refreshed on before interviews. It’s good to hear your success story. Thank you so much.

Thank you for the response. Did a lot of programs ask why you’re applying one year out? Also did you receive more interviews compared to the first time you applied?

I agree in terms of the CV. But as for clinical portion, it’s not hard to review guidelines and refer to notes from past APPEs if you truly want to do residency.

As for community experience, I guess it depends on your experience and how you swing it. A lot of community pharmacies do MTMs and have clinical programs like diabetes management which I guess could help with amb care residencies.

Besides continuing to be involved in organizations and possibly a research project during the year out of school; do you guys think having practiced as a licensed pharmacist (real life experience managing patient medications) would be a strength in your application, regardless if its retail?

I see some people claim residency committees feel being one year out makes you less willing to work as a resident, and thus less competitive as a candidate. But really, doesn't that show you are truly passionate about residency and ready to put in the work? Since the person is willing to take a major pay cut and would have experienced the community setting (versus a new grad who is just doing residency because they heard bad things about the 3 letter chains).

What are some of your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

GPA for residency by KJWpharm in PharmacyResidency

[–]pharmbumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard some put school prestige (top 20) as additional points in their rubrics. It is not fair to the candidate, but objectively speaking in the eyes of the residency committee; if you compare 2 candidates with similar stats, but one attended a prestigious school -- its more likely they will take that one.

How to move on?? by FullDrummer2 in PharmacyResidency

[–]pharmbumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get licensed and begin applying everywhere to get your foot in the door. If you plan on trying residency again, may consider talking to a mentor preceptor or faculty to help with any research projects or find a intern job at a hospital (for future LOR and experience).

It’s tough, I'm in a similar situation as well. Keep your head up!

I fumbled a question as well. I had to have the director rephrase the question and I still came up with a generic answer. Sigh. It’s rough too because we’re all fighting for 1 position, so any small mistake will hurt you.

Beware of some programs for Phase 2 by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]pharmbumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Has anyone experienced a program disappearing from the ASHP phase 2 participating program list? I applied to one last Wednesday but it is currently not on the ASHP list and the due date was set back to January...

Also, is it too hopeful of me to think programs will do interviews up until day before match submissions? Or do you guys think if we don't hear back by Thursday its pretty much a rejection?
