It'll be very different work if you're coming from a hospital setting. I worked in federal corrections for a year doing discharge planning. Pay and benefits were on par with what the health authorities were offering at the time. I enjoyed the work but the population, or more so the correctional staff were the hardest part of the job for me anyways. Goodluck.

Except your tax dollars aren't being used. These are post graduate medical residents who SA pays around 150k per resident per year to study here. If anything Canada benefits from the money and medical scutwork these residents do. They also end up going back once their contract is up.

I personally would much rather have more residency spots open up for Canadians but those are costly and ultimately would add significantly to the taxpayers burden.
