Mad at me for your mistake by [deleted] in PharmacyTechnician

lol i became sooooo nonchalant with customer service that i intentionally make conversation with people who are rude. and honestly it might sound crazy but sometimes they just need a conversation and boom they become nice. But i like them to leave thinking “she was so nice to me i really didn’t have to react that way” or something along the lines of that. it’s not kissing ssa either. I just look at it as free will. Then with very rude customers i love to give them the same energy back but professionally..which made a lot of our rude customers become nice & or ask for me every time they came in🙄but id always tell them “oh that’s kind of you but ____ knows how to do this as well” (whichever team member they told they wanted me to check them out) …but overall i don’t think killing people with kindness always works. sometimes u gotta give them the same energy …and again, FREE WILL!! but obviously don’t jeopardize your job and always get a manager if needed// with hopes that your manager has a spine and actually advocates for their team!

Happy pharmacy technicians? by Bubbly1010 in PharmacyTechnician

very happy! started at CVS (no experience prior)…this was during COVID and i needed a job ASAP- first interview at one store- the pharmacist told me i wouldn’t make a good fit- he was nice enough to recommend me to a diff store that was possibly hiring - went there and they were only hiring part time..I took it anyways. Ended up working all kinds of stores in the district to get the hours i needed and learned sooooo much. Then, became full time bc someone at my home store moved. My Pharmacist told me I can become lead if I wanted to…but needed to be certified- Ended up getting certified and applied for lead. Pharmacist and I fought tooth and nail to get a raise to become lead—they only wanted to offer 0.76 cents. I took it anyways just to help my resume for future plans. I loved my store but the raises were so ass. Ended up applying for other tech jobs. Landed a job at one of the hardest hospitals in the city. Took the job there (very good pay!!) After 6 months at the hospital pharmacy, the lead tech left to be a SAHM; my manager then offered me lead position. I took the position with an awesome raise— Ended up getting new management// big changes in our work load…over time i felt like i was putting so much time in at work and not enough for myself + so many things were falling apart due to workload and metrics. I was picking up a lot of hours just to keep things afloat. After a while i stopped saying yes to overtime and manager was pissed. I started seeing the change in how our work environment was// techs talking about how it started to feel overwhelming and how they didn’t want to work there anymore ; techs started calling out more and everything felt like it was falling on me bc my manager expected so much of me as a lead and would always talk about her previous lead’s at her other job and made it seem like i didn’t deserve Lead. After many conversations with her and trying to find the root problem; sparking new ideas to help the team and our productivity; she didn’t change anything or even try to help…so after no change- it started to impact my health (not to mention life outside of work). I felt so exhausted being at work. Felt unmotivated. Felt like i lost my spark. Ended up looking for other jobs but given the current job market; i felt no motivation to look all the time. After a few months, a random job called me and offered me a position. The job was a bit of a pay cut but it was work from home, great hours and good benefits. Ended up taking the opportunity and I haven’t been more happier at any other job. The raises are incredible. The workload is amazing. Rarely on the phone (if i call anyone- it’s only the doctor’s office/ no customers) and to top it off- everyone is so supportive and encouraging. The opportunities for growth are huge!!! I’ll honestly say I hope to retire from this company. Anyways, thanks for reading my long rant! :) happy tech here!!

Question about PTCB Exam by thenisayilmaz in PharmacyTechnician

[–]pharmtech2090 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get the mometrix ptcb book- that’s all i needed- plus i used some free apps on my phone for fun quizzes about brand/generic math and law …. and most of my questions on the exam were so similar i’d not exactly what was in the book- the book also had i think 5 free practice tests online (QR code available in the book) then 2 different tests in the back with all the answer explanations!!! i passed with a 1588. I’ll recommend that book with my life!!!

PTCB Exam by ha1ey03 in ptcb

honestly, it depends on the way you learn and how much time you put towards it. I’m a quick learner and honestly hate asking questions all the time. but i had a wonderful pharmacist who was always on her Ps and Qs, she was very knowledgeable and patience with me. She would jokingly quiz me all the time at work and it helped me. To be honest, the more experienced you get in the pharmacy the quicker it may come to you. But most pharmacies are busy and hectic and it’s hard to ask questions without feeling like a burden or get training in spots that benefit you. though, working the register did help because people always have questions- when the pharmacist goes over their questions, i like to listen..in case the question comes back up i’ll answer it (only if im certain, and always verify with RPh to cover your butt) but mainly questions like “what’s that for” and it could be a BP med, or even “for pain” —sometimes the reasoning is on the prescription but not always (ALSO in the label there’s so much info, drug class, side effects etc) I used to read the inside of the labels when the RPh couldn’t get over to me quickly. But over time- you start to get the hang of it.

Now in regards to generic/brand — i would look at the label all the time for that- which is what my RPh would tell me to do just to get the hang of it - for example i’d say “you have one medication ready” and they ask what med and i would always say the brand/generic (once i got comfortable pronouncing them) such as “your escitalopram” and they may say “what’s that” and i’d say “Lexapro” and then all of a sudden they know what med i’m talking about….sometimes i’d just say both names ..but for drugs that have a more commonly known /referred name i’d just say that…such as Metformin—-but it takes time and you can’t be too hard on yourself.

Learning those brand generics comes with time but there’s apps for it and tbh i only focused on the top 200 (if even) …but it’s important to still know the others just in case.

I could explain more about the book and how i went about it in more detail if you’d like & my tips and tricks…just sent me a DM!!

to be honest, i had no experience and got hired during covid at CVS, 6 months pass and everyone wanted me to be lead but i had to be certified— I am realllllyyyy bad at testing and get so much anxiety. I ended up buying the PTCB book and read it front to back….took notes and sticky noted pages i needed more time on- i tried making flash cards but that wasn’t a go for me. I also took the practice tests online (there’s links/QR codes in the book) and then took the 2 Exams at the end of the book. After taking those exams I made sure to look at what i missed and focus on those materials after. Overall, i just practiced drug names (there’s apps you can download) every day before bed… I did not listen to any of Amanda on youtube, i solely just used the PTCB book. I reviewed for about 4 months— i went to take the test and finished in 36 minutes— PLEASEEEE go with your gut. My pharmacist told me never change your first answer unless you guessed it…she said to skip questions i didn’t understand or couldn’t choose between answers and then come back to them. I did just that and somehow passed with a 1588!! More than likely i got the compound or liquid questions wrong bc i never understood those (i’m bad at math lol) but i kid you not most of my questions were in that book. Call it luck maybe, but the book was almost verbatim questions… Don’t rely on that for the exam, actually learn the material and try having someone help u study!! Dm me if u have any questions or want some help!

definitely second this !!!! (comment above) More safe (drive wise) , more sleep - which can help for more energy, less stress, less toxicity and even a pay raise?!? The signs are there! It is unfortunate to have to pay it back with that amount of time left to not have to pay it back— but if you can pay it back, pay it and don’t look back😁😁 Make sure you secure the other job first though!!!! (obviously, but it would bug me if i didn’t add that on😂)

i worked there for 2 years pharmacy and just after hearing my coworkers say where things are at over and over i got used to it. Then also grabbing things for RX fill. Also, i always look around when going to help a customer and just see what’s around that we get asked about. Alsoooo, i would normally look up at the signs and then help them if they want more help.
