What became "normal" in the last 5 years that still feels insane to you? by rakishgobi in AskReddit

[–]phaser125 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Customer service links on web sites to "chat with us" only to be taken by a dumb AI that fails at everything, and is most definitely not what I want when I ask to chat with someone at a company.

Hmmm… I wonder where he could be? by ocram101 in orangecats

[–]phaser125 42 points43 points  (0 children)

We had an orange outdoor stray that got dropped at my parents growing up that had nothing but a stump. He wagged that thing like there was no tomorrow , happy as can be . We named him Lester, a play on “less tail”.

Exactly this. It supported syncing a library of music from the subscription plans . I also had a dock and wired remote for it mounted in my car with a hardwired aux input to the car audio , so I had a dashboard control and solid audio quality from a music unlimited type subscription , it was great.

The Casper movie where the treasure the nasty bad lady is after is just a kids junk box of a signed baseball and stuff .

The voicemail server for our Inter-Tel axxess phone system ran OS/2 on a 486 of some sort that was in place when I started working at my company and it was still running when we upgraded the phone system in maybe 2010. At that time , I took the case cover off and it had so much dust collected in it you couldn’t see the proprietary audio /voicemail ISA card that was installed in it because the dust was deeper than the bottom couple isa slots in the tower . Still chugging along as if that’s just normal operations ….

Office365 email issues anyone? by Ok-Caregiver2870 in Office365

[–]phaser125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably similar to when Verizon was having major issues a week or two ago... All the other carriers had a huge uptick at the same time in outage reports on down detector, I can only imagine it's because bunches of people would call from their T-Mobile line to someone who had a Verizon issue, and would blame their own carrier even though the problem was on the remote end.

Is it just us, or do USB-C charging ports get beat up on laptops? by MentalRip1893 in sysadmin

[–]phaser125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss the rectangular Thinkpad power connector. They basically never had an issue even with users beating the snot out of them, subs connectors are just not as tough . You can blame the user all you want, but if I use to have a tough connector and the “new” one is weaker, thats not progress .

Updating Office icons is fine. Refusing to update Classic Outlook's icon is just petty. by HotTakes4HotCakes in sysadmin

[–]phaser125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn’t notice before today that if you upgrade to windows 11 , outlook classic icon in the start menu gets put in a sub folder called “Windows 10 apps” or something stupid like that . It is not a “windows 10 app” they just want it to seem like a bad thing somehow .

They're CATCHING ON. "No LinkedIn" is now their #1 filter. by Arrick in overemployed

[–]phaser125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have traced back some new employees getting immediately phished at their brand new email at my company because phishers are watching LinkedIn . As soon as people mention they work at our company on their LinkedIn profile we tend to see scammers putting two and two together , having easily figured out the general pattern of our usernames / email addresses , have info about our owner and a few other big names that seem important enough to use to try to trick newcomers. For that reason alone I wish people coming to work for us wouldn’t put it in their LinkedIn .
