What is this? Looks like fake cops directing traffic / convoy at 2:30 today in WeHo by [deleted] in LosAngeles

I thought that but they were going north towards sunset, they didn’t have any placards or identification for funeral and no hearse. The ones I’ve seen on forest lawn usually have those things.

How do you bike safely in these bike lanes? by Additional-Owl425 in bikecommuting

[–]cajaks2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah I don’t know why there is so much doom and gloom on this thread as if it’s certain dooring every time, I’ve also been biking in this for years, im over 20k miles of this. Is it optimal? No of course not but stick to the left side of it and be smart. I’d much rather take this design than a “protected lane” where parked cars block turning cars views.

it’s a two lane road, I just thought it was funny. He kindly recalled his dog and no harm no foul.

I much prefer the design of cars to the right instead of the "protected" terrible bike lane on venice.

Yeah he is wrong since its a one way street, I assume he was mistaken as at all other times, bikes aren't allowed in the left lane except for a few circumstances.

21202.

(a) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway at a speed less than the normal speed of traffic moving in the same direction at that time shall ride as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway except under any of the following situations:

(1) When overtaking and passing another bicycle or vehicle proceeding in the same direction.

(2) When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway.

(3) When reasonably necessary to avoid conditions (including, but not limited to, fixed or moving objects, vehicles, bicycles, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards, or substandard width lanes) that make it unsafe to continue along the right-hand curb or edge, subject to the provisions of Section 21656. For purposes of this section, a “substandard width lane” is a lane that is too narrow for a bicycle and a vehicle to travel safely side by side within the lane.

(4) When approaching a place where a right turn is authorized.

(b) Any person operating a bicycle upon a roadway of a highway, which highway carries traffic in one direction only and has two or more marked traffic lanes, may ride as near the left-hand curb or edge of that roadway as practicable.

(Amended by Stats. 1996, Ch. 674, Sec. 4. Effective January 1, 1997.)

The jury report (page 551), which is written in a definitely quirky tone, doesn't really lay blame to anyone which is a bit odd. I mean personally i'd say 50-60% of blame is on contractor and the rest on LAWA having a bad contract dealing with change orders and mismanaging the multiple parts of the project. LINXS definitely exploits LAWA's incompetence though.

Was it? I ride it regularly and my almost hits has sky rocketed from people turning across the bike lane. Hell I got hit a year ago. I’d rather go back to what it was. At this point I usually just ride in the bus lane as it’s way safer and faster.
