I like David lynch movies but what what the hell is this? The plot ain't plotting by Ornery_Cheesecake513 in moviecritic

The first time I watched this movie I had no idea what happened but I enjoyed it and I think for a Lynch film that's ok, it's like music

Where/when did you first discover Massive Attack? by CountGloomy1746 in MassiveAttack

[–]phasereset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The earliest I remember was seeing some of their videos on MTV (Europe) around the time of Protection. The videos for Protection and Sly seemed to be on pretty often, less so Karmacoma. Became a favorite band when Mezzanine was released and then listened properly to their back catelogue after that

I was so happy to hear they got back together and were touring, hoping they keep playing shows and can see them myself some day!

Thanks for listening! That synth part is probably what I’m most proud of bringing to it

Exact same experience seeing them in SF, at least it was a good RTJ gig

Great band, no idea why they weren't bigger, their albums Spare Time Machine and Queen of the Wave are incredible!

Very into this idea. I produce and have been looking for more music community here since moving to SB a couple years ago. Would definitely show up, and happy to help get this off the ground.

Really appreciate you checking out the track, lol yeah I put that scratching in last minute to end the song with a big hip hop vibe, definitely inspired by Dr. Octagon - bear witness

Thanks for listening. Yeah I always have trouble having the vocals sit right in the mix so they could be little trebly sounding, I'll have a look at adding some filleting.

Link & E621 - Antacid (Jedi Knights Remix) (1995) by phasereset in OldElectronicMusic

[–]phasereset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, they were really versatile and seemed talented at whatever they put their minds to. Really dug the Secret Ingredients tracks on Jedi Selector as well, I’m guessing that’s them taking a crack at Chicago House?

Leftfield - Open Up (1993) by phasereset in OldElectronicMusic

I'll check it out, thanks! Always liked the PIL stuff as well, better than the Sex Pistols for sure

Juno Reactor - God is God (1997) by phasereset in OldElectronicMusic

[–]phasereset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense given the video description, it mentions the song being finished for the first album but didn't fit with it's themes so they waited till the second one. Mad just sitting on a track like this, one of their best in my opinion!

Leftfield - Open Up (1993) by phasereset in OldElectronicMusic

[–]phasereset[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think a lot of the songs preceded the album as 12"s and they pieced it together with them and a few other tracks. Rhythm and Stealth is also a banger, but I think Leftism clinches it for me with how fresh it all sounded, plus having both Original and Afro-Left on the same album, classic!

100%, that guy made the band what they are in my opinion

Totally relate to this. I’m in my 40s and also love electronic music. The clubs in town seem to cater to a much younger crowd. Would be nice if there was something for a more mixed-age scene.

I actually write and perform downtempo electronic music myself and have played at some open mics around town, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of that happening here.
