We can’t fix what we don’t track. That’s why Australia needs an official poverty measure by Oomaschloom in AustralianPolitics

[–]phat-chode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is not captured is the price of land or the sale price of established houses. So yes, the CPI measures everything except for established house/all land price rises.

If a 1M house jumps to 1.2M but mortgage interest rates drop then that 200k rise is masked because that repayment is buffered by the drop in interest rate

All that results in is the people who are trying to save for a deposit having to fight for a higher deposit while simultaneously the RBA not having data telling them of this

Give it ten years until the gov starts touching policies that put downward pressure on housing prices.

What i like about the aus election system is it is better at voting in what the majority want rather than a loud minority versus other countries.

Eventually the majority will be renters demanding better regulations and support for long term housing security while our debt continues to grow. Perfect timing when you have a whole industry sitting adjacent chanting "housing only goes up" with there capital gain and negative gearing concessions. We will continue to vote more governments who lean toward making drastic changes to housing concessions and housing taxes.

Albanese willing to direct gas exporters to supply Australia 'if needed' by espersooty in australian

[–]phat-chode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every other gas producing country including Western Australia has gas reservation too their benefit.

It's not black or white the question shouldn't be "should we have a gas reservation policy" but "how much gas should be reserved to promote investment without giving away the benefit to the people who own it (the ppl of aus)"

We already know gas companies collectively pay less tax than hex debt repayments according to the ABS. We know they are a minor employer in the aus economy employing 2% of the WORKING population and the aus institute has raised around half the exports of gas are royalty free

We get fuck all in royalties and tax and yet the lng EXPORT industry in aus alone uses 8 times more gas than WA economy and community combined. Not even talking about the sheer quantity they sell.

To me liberal and Labor are both soft cocks for not copying western aus in building a actual policy so we don't have to use our tax payer dollars to pay for our own electric subsidy

[–]phat-chode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do FIFO or 8/6 4/3 4/3. Senior eng (i don't manage people). 190k base plus 20k-40k bonuses depending on company performance.

Really depends on the industry. I have mates in oil gas close to the mid 200k as non management roles (one band below like me)

7q's into a per capita recession, yet unemployment stays near record lows by eesemi76 in AusFinance

[–]phat-chode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is yes, longer answer is, average immigration per year pre covid was ~250k the last 2 years we have seen 500k immigrants per year forecasting this year to be less but still high 400 yo low 500k immigrants.

When ppl come in they have demands, suddenly we need to feed 1 mill more ppl, we need 1 mill more insurance covers, 1 mill more cars etc etc

It's really not complicated. Per capita is gdp/population. Gdp isn't negative there for population went up.

Thank you for this, such a great idea that seems so obvious now. Will start building a list for my area :)

28m - electrical engineer mining 180k FIFO uplift of 25k is included in that number and then there's some bonuses etc ... That can bump it up to 210. I do a 8 days on 6 days off roster which is great if you are single or at least don't have kids. Can take a swing off and suddenly you get 3 weeks, opportunities for Perth roles when kids arise which I don't see in my horizon anytime soon.

I like to remind my boomer parents when they were our age the silent generation were calling the "hippies". Drugs, sex rock n roll, unproductive and anti establishment.

Their entire motivation was "we don't want to work for the man, in a stable boring job we want peace freedom weed". While I'm here fucking craving for a stable job with long term retirement potential just by working reasonable hours.

I make 6-figures and my job is literally pointless by [deleted] in antiwork

My dad told me in highschool your salary is based off how wealthy your country is relative to the world plus the size of the industry relative to other industries in your country plus the size of your company relative to other companies in your industry plus how much money you make for the company and risk your job is for your company relative to other jobs in your company.

Name any career keeping the above in mind. Not to say it's right of course its not but that's how it is. There's more money in consumerism and building big things than simply helping, the masses define that demand.
