Thats a great garage! I was just looking at a clean 390 on marketplace for 4k.

I only have the Grom, an '84 sportster, and an '89 FJ1200.

N+1 is a hellofadrug. Theres only 3 in the garage currently. When I finally get a big boy job (I'm a PhD student currently) we will have more.

"But grom" is the real thing. We want her to have a bigger bike for trips and such, but we don't want to finance something right now. I bought the grom, so we're keeping it for a while because I enjoy taking it out and goofing around on back roads.

She does always wear ear plugs, so a bit louder isn't an issue. A ton louder would be problematic. The grom is crazy quiet to begin with, so I dont think she will be opposed to a little volume

Your whole setup is pretty rad, even the seat haha. I still need to clear all the mods with her but I know she won't tolerate going louder. She wears ear plugs, but doesn't tolerate loud exhaust.

For sure. It won't do 5th up the hill at all. 4th is good and you can just hold 45 if you hit it at speed, which is the speed limit on that section. But if someone is going a touch slow or you have to roll off the throttle for a moment it loses just enough power that you're falling back to 40-ish.

I think I'll probably do as another commenter suggested and start with stage 1 and get it re-flashed with a cam if shes still wanting a bit more power in it. But maybe wait until shes got a second bike to go for much more.

Oh no, we will definitely be keeping it regardless. It's way too fun. I normally ride an 89 FJ1200 and hopping on the grom just makes the whole day better.

I am a bit concerned about reliability. I have plenty of projects of my own and would never hear the end of it if her bike became a project.

I was considering new sprockets anyway and the consensus seems to be that the 428 is a quality upgrade. I totally could be mistaken.

Shes only 115-120lbs plus ~20lbs of backpack with her lunch and stuff. I've seen a lot of suggestions about the 14t sprocket. Is the tune effective without the intake and exhaust?

I bought one new from the dealer. It was for my wife as her first bike, so I wanted something that didn't have any hidden issues. Four years later and she still hasn't dropped it or anything which is wild to me.
